some of the vents on the solenoids have those.

if the solenoid is open, that doesnt sound right, you should google the shop manual, there is a whole section, and its easy to check. you might have a crossed vacuum line, or the wrong solenoid or something

All of the solenoid valves that have an "open" side are supposed to have those; they're just little air filters intended to help keep crud out of the vacuum lines, to prevent the valves from fouling.

They also tend to break off really easy on the plastic side of the valve. I ran several of mine for many years without them, with no trouble. Only recently ended up accumulating enough of them from junkyards to have them all back in place.

If it's open and it's not supposed to be, it would work like a vacuum leak. If it's open and it's supposed to be, it's normal. You need to dig into the Field Service Manuals to know when each of those valves is supposed to be open.

its supposed to be there, but i doubt its supposed to be open at idle, for that you should look too see if its hooked up right (there are 8 vacuum lines its not hard)

does plugging the vacuum line fix the idle stumble? If so, i'd call a bad valve. If not, then I'd check out the 5/8" line that runs from Anti-Afterburn #2 to the intake manifold. This a common culprit of large vacuum leaks, and it could be just starting to fail. It's the hose drawn in in red in the attached picture. Mine had a 2" hole in it when I bought my car, and it's a bitch to find. Most of the time carb cleaner doesn't reach it.

yes i plugged and no change in idle still a slight stumble, like a misfire or something, but i also checked the hose behind the carb and its all good.so i dont know why i have a stumble in my idle if its not vacuum it may be timing im thinking.
