What are these wires?

I did a search for " what are these wires" but I got 23,432 hits. Can anybody tell me what they do or don't do? There are two white ones that obviously plug into each other, but always came unplugged on the 84/85 GSLs I've got. Then there's a single unplugged green one:

Am I missing something, like an optional electronic cup holder or power sun roof?

Thanks
Ray

Might just be left over for the GSL-SE's but I dont know, sometimes companies will make one wiring harness for two cars, saves time and money. So the 13b would have a few loose connections that were 12a specific... I might be wrong though...

I'm not sure what it is for, but I do know it's not part of the GSL-SE harness. As you know, the 1984 1985 passenger side harness unplugs from the firewall. On the GSL-SE, it does not.

Best way to find out is trace them down in the FSM wiring diagram. The green connector has no companion from what I remember. The 2 white ones look like they may indeed need to to be connected.

I take it you're tracing down possible problems/electrical gremlins leftover from the carb rebuild?

I can say that I faintly remember a lot of those style plugs being removed with the rats nest removal, if that helps any.

I am a proud owner of a rat's nest, so it might take an RX-7 historian to explain these wires. I'm just curious, they are on all my 84/85 GSLs, all as unhooked as Clapton's best music. Could the Mazda engineers really have been that messed up?

"I take it you're tracing down possible problems/electrical gremlins leftover from the carb rebuild?"

Nope Trochoid, I'm looking for a distraction from all that. I put in a new fuel filter I didn't need, checked the banjo bolt screens that were cleaner than my teeth and am still trying to figure out why the temp gauge goes up when the headlights come on, which it's been doing since long before the carb rebuild.

Without much progress on those fronts, I'm thinking about stuff that might be more productive. Like what those wires do, or don't.

So anybody got any idea what these are for?

Here's a better picture:

Thanks!
Ray

Green plugs under the hood are test connection ports for archaic diagnostic tools of the 80's.......there are several of them, here and there.

iirc that test connector is for testing the tps (yes 12a's have them) as steve said, its very old school stuff, there are very few of those test connectors on the 12a cars(the one pictured is the only one iirc), but lots on FC engines....

Thanks, so the green one is a dinosaur. How 'bout the white one?

"What colors are the wires on the white plugs?"

Black and black/white on the male end, black/green and black/white on the female.

What about the one with the red and black wires? It goes up to the carb. Does it need to be hooked up? I totally forgot about it on an '84 I'm working on.

A.P.L. solenoid valve is:

Green with Black stripe
Black with White stripe

Female connector

Page 50:14 section B1 of the wiring diagrams (FSM)

So what does APL stand for?

Ya, I have those( i got rats nest) and mine are all connected I think except maybe 2. My car runs perfect though. It looks like those two white ones could connect like trochoid siad, but make sure in the FSM.

I have rats nest, but I removed ACV...here's a pic of the acp off of car but wires hooked back up stock.
This is an 85 GS, all connectors coming from wiring harness are female except the one white one, the black coming from the ACV is male and the white coming from acv is female.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...s/Image008.jpg
#1 is black and connects to the black female from wiring harness.
#2 is white and connects to the male coming from the wiring harness.
#4 is not used
and #3 is not used.
Now once I removed the ACV I could plug #2 (male from wiring harness into #3 female from wiring harness but that isn't the way it was intended...I did hook them up briefly just after airpump removal just to see what would happen(duh...I really don't know why I did I just did )but nothing happened and/so I unplugged them again...So I have 1,2,3, and 4 unhooked since I've removed ACV, but I notice you have your airpump so hope this will help somehow, not sure if your wires/connectors are same color?

Yes my are all the same except I also have a male connector with red/white and red wires. I'll try hooking up those two that look like they are made for each other and see what happens. I'm still curious about what they do. Like what does "APL" stand for?

Thanks for the feedback
