What are these computers for??

Talking about the one right above your left leg under the dash and the one behind the drivers seat on the floor. My cars a 83 if that matters.

I'm pretty sure the one under the dash is for the emissions crap for the carb and related stuff. Does it controll anything else? Would like to get rid of it.

Now that box behind the drivers seat I have now idea what thats for.

Any one know??

Under the dash, above your pedals there is something called the "CPU". It is infact NOT a computer, but a bunch of relays and timers. They run the time-delay wipers, lights under the drivers door handle and near the ignition key hole, door ajar beeper, and a couple of other things.

Behind the driver's seat, I am not sure, do you mean under the storage boxes? If so, and it's got the higher model stereo, that may be an amplifier. In my car, it's bolted vertically and it labeled "Clarion."

Also, near that amplifier is the computer for the cruise control. If I'm remembering correctly, it's got a large harness running into the side of it.

yep, there's 2 amps in the high end stereo like in the -SE's and GSL's, they're behind the bins in the back, next to the driver's one is your cruise control cpu. The main ECU is on the passanger side floor under a metal plate where your feet usually rest.

You may not have the main ECU due to it being carb'd.

I think this is the thing your talking about (upper left black thing). You can see the connector right next to it that plugs into the thing in the pic from the post before this one.

I figured this is where it should be because thats where it was on my -se and 85 12a but on my 83 there is no cpu under the carpet on the pass side but there is this box (untitled.jpg) up in the dash where there was none on my 84 -se or 85 12a. This is why I'm thinking it is probably the cpu.

I'm just wondering because I'd like to get rid of it if I can because it won't be needed to run anything on a 13bt if it's just a cpu for all that emissions crap for a 12a.

You can send me your CPU if it is waying your car down. I could allways use a new one, mine is not working right, I still have all my emissions crap and it does effect the way my car runs. I will send you my address if you take it off and want to give it to me.
The one on the back is an am, Mine was a clerion amp. I have an 83 as well and have or had everything you had on yours. Thanks

ok the pic (not untitled.jpg) is of an ecu, that's for sure. I think on the 12A's it runs the emissions dealies and not much else. If you've ganked yer emissions I can't see why it's nessicary. The untitled.jpg pic is of a very rusted cruise control computer

You'll be sorry if you yank that!
It controlls lights and accessories, like...flashers.
It also contains the "door open" buzzer. I removed mine and did a little "surgery" on it...Scratched across one of the conductors printed on the board that goes to the buzzer.
God I hated that thing!
