What should we do with people killing rx7s
Has it occured to any of you that with every V8 that goes into an rx7 a rotory comes out. That means more engines available...
I also do not understand how anyone can be bothered by what someone else does with their own car. Last time I checked, someone doing a V8 conversion didn't hurt me. Wait let me check again...nope no pain...
Grow Up!

Maybe the reason people do a V8 swap over the rotary is that they don't understand the rotary and/or know how to get the hp out of it they want. And maybe they just want to be cool and own a 7!
Sounds good to me!

Why do people get so worked up over what someone else does to their own damn car?
I think I'll drop a GN engine off in the POS 87 Sport in my yard and whoop *** on all challengers. gnx7 is running low 11's on the stock turbo in his GN engined GXL....

jr,
Perhaps this started out innocent enough for a laugh...or not; but it seems to have provolked much thought on both sides of the fence.
Good post...though I don't agree with you.
We all love to modify our cars for performance, and a select few try to keep them as pristine as the day they were bought - not raped by any bolt-on performance "Viagra" products. Those people are the real "car effectionados" and my dad is one of these. He spends almost as much on his cars in cleaning and maintainance crap as I do in mods!
I remember as a child my father using a shoelace saturated in polish cleaning each wire on his Austin Healy knock-off wheels.
Gueeze, he would keep the sparkle in that cars soul! Always looked like the car just rolled off the showroom floor in 1967!
But we must take a look at racing history in America for a moment, and see that it was 'not so rich' "home mechanic" types that put other components on their cars to try to win races. These people did the testing for us all; the fruits of their years of labor which we all enjoy today as "already proven" modifications to our cars.
My point is that anybody that sports a Holley carb, or a "made in America Racing Beat header", or a diffy from a Ford, ...Or anything else that was'nt stock on their Rx-7, should never concider himself such a purest as to look down their snout at the guy down the block who's trying to squeeze a V8 into his Rx-7.
I'm suprised at the hypocracy that I see by these people who flame others about their choice to make such changes to their own cars. You're either a purest, or you're not. An engine swap of any kind is nothing more than another modification. Obnoxious posts about this sort of thing causes tempers to flare, and RXPassion had the wit about him to blunt the point quick.
Further, I have to agree with PeeJay in that the idea that an Rx-7 is "ruined" because someone did an engine swap is ludicrous. The rest of the car was'nt the best design, by any means; but happened to come together so well as one of the best of the last "simple" suspension designed sports cars, that it still rivals sports cars rolling of the lines today that sport much too much complexity underneath.
Of course, most people that concider slapping in a V8 are probably not as concerned with that as many of us that appreciate the whole package.
But then again, many of the people bitching about those guys don't seem to pay enough attention to that issue either...For example; jrs responce about the Grand National does nowhere include the fact that the GN was designed with an impressive suspension system that literally makes the rear end of the car squat down under acceleration for more traction.
Is it all about the "badges"? Then you don't appreciate a "sleeper"?
And one other thing...Just so everyone can disagree with me knowing exactly where I stand on car customization...
We're no better than anyone else who takes pride in their car. The minute we all collectively start thinking that we are, we become the same forum that others have ventured over to to "check out", only to return saying something like, "Those guys are a bunch of snobby ********!"
This absolutely includes the Honda people, whether they're ricing up their car, or just trying to make it go faster. Sure, it's fun to kid around about them, but don't ever forget that their baby is just as important to them as yours is to you.
Just because someones baby is ugly does'nt mean you ever say it!
Appreciate what you have; and appreciate the fact that you have such appreciation!

I didn't think people would get so pissed off about it. I was just clowning around on my post.
Seriously, though... I still dunno why you'd want to put a non-rotary in a Rx-7... But I guess some people just like that kind of thing.
And I still think it'd be cool to have a 20b put into some muscle car.

adding a v8 to a rx-7, to me, is akin to some silly folks who stuffed v8s into sunbeam tigers. and what do we have to show for it? oh yeah... someone ended up making the shelby cobra! there's nothing wrong with modifications. it's my choice to not do that to my car. as far as punishment.... the people who do a poor job end up looking stupid! for instance, my old hometown sported a v8 rx-7. seeing as the guy couldn't get it to fit right, he just cut a big ol' hole in the hood. then that didn't look right, so he welded a box on top of it. the box had a row of 1.5" holes across the front for ventilation(i guess it was for ventilation). so now this guy has a v8 rx-7 with what appears to be a chicken coop on the hood
! THIS is the kind of guy we should punish! although driving around with a chicken coop on your hood and people pointing and laughing their asses off seems punishment enough.
then there's the craftsmen who do the job right. and their reward is to be able to look at their car with pride and say 'i did that!' my mechanic wants to buy my trooper after the winter and put a rotary in it. it's no different. he's more comfortable with rotaries and has the know-how.... why not?
*rotorhead stops to ponder a 4wd isuzu trooper with a ported 13b

go here to see a beemer with a 13b rotary engine
Re: go here to see a beemer with a 13b rotary engine
Running 11's no less! :/
Maybe it's 1000ft or 1/8th mile and not 1/4....
That is one conversion I've thought about many times.

I've got a old turbo magazine that has a 50chevy car with a 13bt in it, man does that car look strange with that 13b in it. He even put plexy glass in place of some of the hood so you can see what's inside while the hood is closed. I think most people would say WTF to that car and Cool to a FB with a V-8. Id rather have a big block chevy in my 50 chevy and a rotary in my Rx-7 but thats just me, call me crazy!
