At what RPM should the secondaries open?
Stock nikki, not mechanically modded. At what RPM should the secondaries open?
I had the RPMs at 5000 and the butterfly in the secondary didn't open, nor did any fuel jet in.
Thanks!

i'm pretty sure you can't check that at idle, they open under load. so you need to get your friend to sit on the front fender with the hood up while you haul ***. to answer your question though, i have no clue and am curious myself, CARL!!!

you are supposed to keep the secondaries shut with a spring or something and take it for a test drive and see if it makes any difference, if it's going to start to surge you know it was opening up before.

There is a distinct difference in pedal feel when the secondaries want to engage. The pedal should feel stiffer as you punch it. On my '79, the difference in intake noise is substantial between the primary and primary + secondary operation.

OK, this may be a little off topic. But the 13B in the 84-85 GSL-SE (like mine) have six ports, right? lol. I'm sure yall can answer this for me. ( I know i sound stupid)

Yes, they are 6 port engines. And no you dont sound stupid. If you dont know and ask, thats not stupid. If you dont know and you pretend that you do, thats stupid.

a poor-man mod i did was cut out the center section of the lid and use a commercial grade air filter from home depot. it came blue so look closely and you will see what i mean. i worked at domino's when i was younger and snatched a 10" pizza screen. put it on top of the OE filter (to keep the element from getting sucked in) and then put the new filter on top of the screen. when clamped in place, this is what you get.......
along with mechanical secondaries, you could really hear the carb roar

yea, that's what i meant. LOL whoops. now, would your exhaust mods make a difference on when they open? like say stock compared to my setup with the rb header, piping, high flow muffler?

Possibly, what it really is it this. Its based on air flowing thru one of the primary bores on the carb, so its load based only, other than the linkage that keeps it closed till the primaries have opened a certain amount.

didnt someone have a how-to on the mech-secondaries? i have the general idea of what i'm supposed to do and could probably bust open the carb a bit and get it done, but to what sacrifice? i dunno. i'd rather have a look thru. hahahaha
