What now?

Okay, so I have commited myself to the lightening of my 84 GS...

Now, I need some inspiration/suggestions.

I removed all the carpet, insulation and I removed some of the useless wiring like the ones for the stock amps, stereo I even removed the passenger seat...for now. I am extremely happy with the results, however, the absense of insulation means my loud-*** exhaust resonates through the cocpit like noticing's some fat dudes toupet...

It's sooooo ******* loud. Turn your stereo really loud and stick your ear next to it!!!!

Oh and that reminds me...the stereo and speakers are all gone too.

Anything else I could get rid of? Any special ways of getting rid of all that sticky tar **** off the floor? Anyone know of any cheap, light insulation i could use towards the rear of the car when I'm not racing?

Thanks!

While you're at removing all possible chance of comfort, you could remove the HVAC!!

I know--- tie a bunch of helium balloons to it. That's gotta lighten it at least a little.

To lighten that '84

To rid yourself of the tar use a razor knife and scrape off what u can. Use Lacquer thiiner to clean up after, Best light insulation is Thermax sheet insulation, comes from 3/8 to 1.5" thick. Usually one inch thick that is scored on the back wit a razor knife u can bend it around and into many shapes. It works very well..stuff regular PINK PANTHER type fiberglass wool into door cavities and in those out of the way spots to sound and heat deaden......m

-Lexan is a great idea for the entire hatch area...i still want to roll down my windows

-HVAC? If you mean...A/C? Already gone!

-Thanks curly, I could just buy that pink panther stuff to stick in that cubby area where the lights are, that might deaden the sound...a little...but completely adequate!

I guess that tar stuff is just a matter of elbow grease! I'm guessing after its gone, theres just bare metal?
I guess I could do a section at a time, scrape it, clean it up, primer...repeat...scrape, clean, primer...repeat.

Sounds like fun!

I've read here that the race car drivers use bags of ice to cool the tar, and then it flakes off easier.

One idea was a good one. Use a hole saw(s) and 'pop'
holes, like at the bottom of the doors, or where ever
theres a lot that could be removed, and in those kind of area's, behind something,,like a door panel. Just don't go nuts. And under the car, i mean , dirt and **** build up over time, clean, scrape, paint, or under coat, real thin though. Race cars have no creature comforts like a heater, defroster, etc. IMO

Too much alcohol and a Sawzall wont just lighten your car, it'll lighten you, and your buddies, and any farm animals too slow to run away.

HVAC = Heating Ventalation Air Conditioning. So remove not just the A/C compressor and condensor, but the blower, the heater hoses, all the duct work....

The dash is another useless, and heavy item.... replace it with a simple piece of aluminum sheet metal, or just use zip ties to mount your gauges.

Yea, but works cheap......just don't throw anything away that you take off, just incase you ever want to have a streetable car again (or want to sell it to anyone not looking for a race shell)

Awe, man. I love sazaw(ll)'s great tool to own. there IS
such a thing as to much beer ? Naw,.
But really, the hole saws work good and make a uniform
cut, you know ,like 1 inch between holes. so it's even,
right down the line.

I dont care about dragging...though it will help if I plan to race the tempo again (dont ask). But it made my car alot more nimbler in the twisties...and my rear end actually sits higher now for some reason...

I kept all the interior in a nice little tiny space in the shed...not that i want to change it back or sell my car...
I'm not sure about removing the heating system. I mentioned it before and i was cautioned not too. Basically because on a wet track day the windows could fog up and without the heating system theres no way to get rid of the fog...
