check your belts. Does it sound like a quiet bell ringing when the car vibrates? If so, its a belt.

BUMP,BUMP,BUMP

Now the noise/vibration is there from 2500-5500 the worst at 5500-6000 then gone @6000.

This noise happens when the car is at idle and is running in gear.

Im thinking its one of the pulleys or something having a hesitation in turning, or as if a pulley is not screwed tight enough like it "wobbling" giving that vibration effect.

Ill be removing the air pump next week. so that will eliminate 1 possibility.

Also when i first bought the car the noise was louder and stronger now not as much but still there???

Any suggestions on what to check? what to look for? any tests that i can do to eliminate any possibilities?

oh yeah i remember someone saying it was something with the clutch????they had the same sound.

you might just be miss firing at that rpm... or you got a bad motor with blown something... check your AFM if its still good... that could cause it to rumble and not have a smooth rise...

I've got the same noise/vibration. Can't be sure of the RPMs since the tach doesn't work, but I also suspect the trans mount. It's not a misfire, just sounds like the engine's about to come apart.

Sometimes engines will vibrate a bit more at a certain rpm because of resonance. I'd check the motor and tranny mounts for tightness. Also make sure your belt(s) are good and tight. There is also a possibility, though slight, that your clutch may be slightly unbalanced. Since the vibration is present when the car is stopped and in neutral, that eliminates the driveline and rearend. Does the vibration also occur when the clutch is disengaged? I'd concentrate on the motor itself as the most likely source of the vibration. Just some things to consider. Good luck gettin' it figured out! -WG

my car has a slight vibration @ 5500 - 6500rpm , it was worse before I replaced the plugs, dizzy cap and rotor arm. Its getting worse again so I'm thinking HT leads this time. Got to order some and see if that cures it

Lots of possibilities, sounds like. On mine, the tranny mount's bolted on tight, but I know it's sagged. I had to shim the upper exhaust heat shield because the front UJ was banging against it.

I haven't tried revving in neutral (no tach), but it's definitely a resonance-type noise at specific RPMs. At 80 in fifth it sounds like an eighteen-wheeler's rumbling alongside the car. If I lift off and push in the clutch the noise disappears, so it's not a chassis vibration.

I replaced the same ignition parts as Mike with no difference. I gotta replace the tranny mount anyway, so I'll see if that helps.

so if you lift the clutch(depress the pedal) the noise goes away!?!

then so, it has to do something with your clutch. WG i never tried to sit the car in netural and depress the clutch. I will try it. Although one morning while i was warming her up i swear i heard what i know what the sound of the throw out bearing, pushed in the clutch and surely it went away so i know i had a bad throwout bearing. but later listened for the sound and it was not there????maybe to much traffic noise....

anyway i have suspiction of the motor mount because the engine at idle, then when i rev it it moves alot. but feels fine when i drive on the fwy.(just the shifter moves quite significantly)so then again i need to inspect the tranny mount.

thanks for all the suggestions...

thank you
