What mufflers are you guys with TII swaps running?

I've done alot of searching on here and Google to try and see what people are using with their TII swaps. Im getting ready to do my sway and I want to have everything ready when I go to drop that bad boy in.

I was first thinking of using the RB muffler, but it would be to restrictive for the trubo. Then I was thinking about putting a 2nd Gen RB muffler from their Turbo System (16425) up under there somehow. I want to stay away from the generic rice rocket, Jose's Muffler shop butcher welded cheap *** mufflers. I know that what ever I go with will probably have to be welded/modded to fit somehow, and thats ok, I just mean I dont want a ricer eBay muffler. Follow me?

Any way, if you guys with TII swaps would be so kind as to throw some pics up and tell me if how you like it, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

The universal mufflers are really where its at. I'm not a turbo guy but I can already tell you the three choices people will give you.

1. Magnaflow (ehhh)
2. Borla (w00t)
3. Racing Beat FD3S muffler ($450???? wtf for a muffler?)

MAGNAFLOW MAGNAFLOW MAGNAFLOW

Straight through, yet they actually muffle the sound. They sound deep and awesome. Also Borla XR-1s, Dynomax bullets for resonators, basically anything that's straight-through, perforated core with either no packing or stainless steel packing. Don't get a baffled/chambered muffler, it kills power, generally it's a waste of money/power.

The reason I wanted to do the 2nd Gen RB muffler is partially looks. I want something that looks nice. I dont want a BLING BLING sideways tilted muffler etiher haha. I was looking at Apex'i, HKS, GReddy universals too. I have heard SEVERAL FCs and FDs with those systems, so I would assume that with decent 3'' piping and one of those universals, it would look and sound decent.

Thanks for the input too BTW.

Cliffs notes for that thread: The same Magnaflow and the same Borla tested against each other. Borla flows 100cfm more and is 5db quieter at idle on average car.

First, you need to list the mods done to the TII, this makes a difference. If you are doing the basics, ported waste gate, FCD, boost controler and 3" downpipe, the Borla for the pre-silencer is the ONLY way to go. Then get a decent highflow for the muffler.

I say go for a Borla ProXS with 3inch inlet and dual 2.5 outlets or 3in outlets. Either choice is under $100 and IMO one of the best universal mufflers on the market.

I put two magnaflow 4" round 28" long magnapacks side by side after the header. And then into a 33" long 6" round magnaflow. On REPU. Everyone comments how quiet and mellow the sound is.

Not enough room for that much muffler on 1st gen. One of the few benefits of REPU besides dual a-arms up front and a HUGE TRUNK.

RacingBeat 81-82 streetport muffler works great on my TII swap.Call it restrictive if you want, but I have 5 years of running that says otherwise.Streetport S5 13BT with a hybrid TO4B,3" exhaust and 14psi max boost.Daily driven and smog legal.

Its quiet and durable, even passes CA noise emissions standards. The RB is a straight through design, just like the Magnaflow and others, but the RB has tons more packing material and a more sturdy shell to control resonance.Turbos do quell exhaust noise, but thats hardly saying much in regards to the rotary.Ive run my setup with another muffler and it was LOUD....especially with the S5 exhaust manifold which is split like a header. The S4 manifold's sound is more muted, but its a crappy design. The S5 flows much better, but gets really raspy due to the split runners.

Perhaps, but Ive never had any issues with making power or running hot.
And when I ran my other, true 3" IN/OUT muffler, I saw no noticable boost, acceleration or performance gains.....just a hell of a lot of noise. If i had crancked up the boost more, yea I might have gone furthur, but the setup Im running is just about maxxed out around 300HP, and Im not one to test the limits of a factory EFI setup on a daily driver.

For someone looking to make 400+HP,yea I wouldnt recommend it.
If you wanna make 250-300HP and/or keep the stock TII ECU and tweek it for max HP.....it works fine. And besides, how many turbo 1st gens are out there which are truely setup to handle 400+HP?......only a small, small minority. Most guys are truely blown away with 200-250 turbo HP in such a light car,and I want those types to know that they can have a very quiet, yet power capable exhaust system to go with it.....

RB FB mufflers are garbage... I use a dunomax bullet presilencer (unargueably the best on the market) and a magnaflow muffler. 3"turbo back and I daily drive right next to cops and they don't even blink at me. When the wastegate opens it gets loud, but not annoying loud, pure sex.

You ever dealt with a CA,or worse yet a SO-CAL police officer?
They pull you over and start taking polaroids under your hood if you have a modded car. Then they make you go directly to the smog reff for emissions or noise testing.I keep my smog and noise ceritificates in my glovebox along with regs and insurance.Ive always been law abiding,I just like to skirt the edges of whats legal so I can have some fun,but not have it cost me an arm and leg in fees and hassel......

I run two Magnaflows in series, a #12216 (5"x8", 2-1/2" in/out, cen/cen) as a presilencer in the area where the cat/thermal reactor used to be, and a #11226 (4"x9", 2-1/2" in/out, cen/offset) in the stock muffler location. When I received these mufflers, I was doubtful at their noise reduction capabilities, given the straight-thru design. All doubts are gone after installation! This setup gives a nice quiet idle, and smooth deep tone on accel. I run these on an S5 turbo.

I think I'm going to use the FC Turbo RB Muffler instead of the FD. It's only $230, and I'll use the Bullet as the presilencer

I have a full 3 inch system. With a single magna flow at the end. The magnaflow is a straight through design with like a 15 degree offset going through it and its got perfed sides and packing. Its a little louder that I would like, Buts it not too loud, i.e. cops dont look at me.
