There's a FB GX... use to have one :) . It was only available in 83 and was basically a special "fully loaded" model. I think it was the equivalent to the American 83 LE.

Well I learnt something new today.

BadAssRX-7 12-19-01 09:12 PM

the 83 l.e. is a gs with speical paint and 14" rims...why the hell not make it a gsl :(

yayarx7 12-19-01 10:34 PM

do like I do and bolt on stuff to make your own GSL. (except the sunroof....I do not have the heart to cut a good rx-7 up.) Bolt up the GSL rear dic LSD rear end and a pre 83 oil cooler/radiator and there you go! Instant easy upgrades:D

BadAssRX-7 12-20-01 02:27 AM

the gs has all gsl stuff but....lsd/disc brakes, rear wiper/washer and power windows. all i want is the lsd ass.

KIRK 12-20-01 09:28 AM

84 GSL 12A - 4 disk brakes, power window, sunroof, cruise, stereo, cassette, equilizer, all stock. Car has 120,000 original miles. one small ding on right back corner panel. Everything else in mint condition. Bought from the original owner, paid $3900.

vladu666 12-20-01 01:45 PM

I,ve got an 1984 GSL-SE (I believe it's an SE) with power everything and that fun little joystick for the speakers. She has 58,324 original miles on her 12A. Absolutely no rust (it was a southern car) Totally stock and original (for now) except for a Sony stereo system. I LOVE THIS CAR!

ha ha someone else noticed that too?
Well I bought my GSL in 8/95 and I am still driving it toay.
I sorta prefer it over the -SE don't ask me why. I have driven both.

If its 12A then its not an -SE.
The -SE had bigger 15" rims. If it has the large 4-spoke cross rims, its either a GS or GSL

vladu666 12-20-01 02:13 PM

Thanks Suparslinc, I was never quite sure about the SE. I always wanted to ask but didn't want to seem like too big of an idiot.
Vlad

RXcetera 12-20-01 02:40 PM

The SE has a 13B, not a 12A. That's the easiest way to tell them apart. Oh, and 14" wheels, not 15". Makes me wonder how many other GSL owners here have checked off SE. I'm surprised by the results...

'79 Lmt Edition

I see two claim ownership of one of these rare beauties. Unfortunately, I crunched mine several years back and has been stored in my 3rd garage ever since. Next year I need to give her up to the wrecking yard, but it has some seriously good shape interior and exterior parts (including a '79 only glass roof). So, if either of you need anything to restore your Lmt Ed's, PM me. I'm just planing on hanging onto the Lmt Ed. badges.

FEARED7 12-20-01 08:16 PM

my 79

Whats up folks. I purchased my 79 model from a friend of mine. He already had done lots of mods to the car, including:

all wheel disc brakes
limited slip differential
polyurithane bushings
KYB struts/shocks
16" wheels/tired (new)
stock t2 engine/trans
adapted driveshaft
custom paint w/ racing stripes
black interior
2 10" subs

the car didn't have an engine management system, turbo, injectors, guages, seats, intercooler, bypass valve.

I put a wolf 3d, 4 720s, Hybrid garrett/hitachi 88 turbo, spearco FMIC, hks racing bypass valve, guages ect. in the car and got it running. The car had been sitting for about 2 years. It smoked oil all the time. I thought it was the turbo, so I changed it out. I bought some twin turbos off of the 3rd gen, and adapted them to the 2nd gen engine. Got it running again. Still smoked. Let the engine sit overnight at TDC and w/o the manifold, took a flash light and looked in the rear exhaust port. Oil puddled up, so immediatly when I turned the engine over w/ my hand, I knew that an oil control ring wasn't sealing. After that I had big plans for that car!

At the time I had a t2 with a race ported 13b, it had racing 3mm hurleys, racing oil pump, reinforced dowel pin, 9.0-1 compression rotors, 93-95 rotor housings. so I took the engine out of the 1 and 2g and did a complete swap to both cars, now whats in the 1g?

I put the race engine in it, with a garrett /mitsubishi t70 turbocharger, 4 1200cc injectors, Aeromotive 1000 hp Fuel pump, Zex adjustable 55-80 shot, Wolf 3d, Racegate, Godzilly BOV, Mustang 70 MM throttle body w/ adapter, ACT 6 puck, custom 10th anniversary seats, custom dash w/ gueges. bla bla bla. Looking for at least 550 at the wheels. HOPE HOPE HOPE!

I am now finishing the project! It should be rolling by the end of JAN! I aill drive it as much as possible.

Bryan

79 limited edition

I actually think mine is a limited edition too! Too bad it isn't stock! lol..

how many limted edition 79 models were there? Knock on wood! this one has 67K original miles and has never been wrecked!

rxtasy 12-21-01 09:58 AM

damn , i though the GSL-SE was supposed to be RARE!!! everyone has one :D

i paid $4300 CDN for mine 7 years ago. seemed high at the time but i couldn't find another one i liked and my '84 GS-POS just blew a motor and i really needed a car!!

puaka 12-21-01 01:37 PM

You can't tell me that there is more GSL-SE owners than any other model. Give me a break! They only made the GSL-SE for two frickin years. Well, there are either alot of misled owners on this forum or all of the S, GS, GSL, LE, and all other non-SE models are owned by everyone else in the world that is not on the forum????? Ok everybody, first make sure that your car was made in '84 or '85. Second, look at the back of your car and if it doesn't specifically say "GSL-SE" on the badge, you don't have one. If your car has a carbeurator, you don't have a GSL-SE. If your motor says "12A" on it, you don't have a GSL-SE. David, maybe you should restart the count.

Mike
rare '82 GS

stinkfist 12-21-01 04:27 PM

What are you guys freaking out about? There are 39 non SE owners and 22 SE owners. Most first gen owners are not enthusiest. Most enthusiest look for SE models. Every one on here is an enthusiest or they wouldn't be here. That means your going to have a higher consentration of se owners here.

Look at it this way. If you take 100 non enthusiest owners and 100 enthusiest owners, which group do you think the most SE's are going to be in. Enthusiest LOOK for SE's, non enthusiest just want cheap transportation.

How many times can I say enthusiest in one post?

Mike

HOZZMANRX7 12-21-01 06:28 PM

How many '79 Lmt Ed. were made

3,000. When you consider they sold about 50,000 RX7's over all in 79 and 80, thats not very many. Anybody have number made stats on GSL-SE's??

NOTA V6 12-21-01 06:53 PM

From what I have heard, not even Mazda knows that. Unfortunate. :( Those 3rd gen guys have exact production numbers split by option package and color. We get "3000 '83 Ltd. Ed." as our only solid production number figure...

Oh, and mine is for sure a real GSL-SE. ;) Although it's about to become a "Turbo I"... http://home.mn.rr.com/linnihan/turbo_ii_powered.htm

From what I read in Car and Driver, (or was it Road and Track) it was 7,500 -SE's for North America in 1984. '85? Not sure, but probably close to the same.

By stinkfist (how the hell did you come up with that alias??): "Look at it this way. If you take 100 non enthusiest owners and 100 enthusiest owners, which group do you think the most SE's are going to be in. Enthusiest LOOK for SE's"

Apart from the spelling :), Exactly.

RX7145 01-08-02 01:27 PM

My 84' was a GSL but is now a -SE. I switched the LSD and the front hubs. And am installing a 86' 13B. You can see it here: http://my7.rx-7.org/Paul/

Aaron Cake 01-08-02 01:30 PM

OK. I have a '79 with a build date of 05/78. It has the 12A, rear drums, external oil cooler. Also Savanna style seats, glass sunroof. What do I have?

RXcetera 01-08-02 02:03 PM

Aaron= 1979 RX-7 GS. All American/Canadian SA's have the front mount cooler, drums and 1/2 plaid/vinyl seats. The sunroof and alloy wheels your car has were available on the GS model. The S model has steel wheels and no sunroof. What's the VIN?

Hi.

That's very nice, Mike. I wouldn't use the word "just" in reference to that one!

Okay, since this thread has been exhumed, has anyone ever heard of a "GT" model? It's a 1978 right-hand drive Japanese.

http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/~jamesmcl/back3.jpg

Bye,
ScruffyChimp

RXcetera 06-11-02 09:16 AM

Yup, in Japan the 1978 lineup saw the Limited, GT, Custom and the Super Custom. The typical, fully loaded, lime green Savanna that's all over the net is a "limited" (that's the one I have).

Can you PLEASE describe exactly what options that GT has?

RXcetera 06-11-02 09:36 AM

If you look closely, you can see the "limited" badge on the left of the plate. Man... I NEED those crome license marker lights :(.

http://www.aaroncake.net/misc/ottawa...nna%20Rear.jpg

PaulFitzwarryne 06-11-02 09:37 AM

Don't be surprised by the results which reflect users of the Forum. Most keen members likely to add to the poll go for the GSL-SE model, non-participants would have a more typical owmership pattern. Unfortunately the model was not exported to Australia and we are stuck with 12A SA22s with a fashion to engine-swap to a 13B.

RXcetera 06-11-02 10:11 AM

Actually, when you tally it up, it makes sense... 39 people have GSL-SE's. That leaves 79 people with "regular" 1st gens.

V8kilr 06-11-02 06:37 PM

i had to check three boxes because i have a 1984 gs with a full gsl-se suspension and other gsl mods

ScruffyChimp 06-11-02 07:11 PM

The GT:

I don't really know what I'm looking for. It has no sunroof and a manual petrol flap like yours. Leather seats (with a back seat, of course). Electric mirrors. A 4 bolt pattern for the wheels. It has the aerial built into the windscreen (which maybe not all models do?), a standard diff and brakes.

Bye,
ScruffyChimp
