Took the car back out...... 1000KG !!!!!!!!!! Did it !! The scale rounds to 10's but whatever, close enough. As soon as I get my hands on a grinder for a week-end, watch out. On a side note, my buddy's FC came in at 1180KG.... hehe eh he

That's what my '80 weighed... 2210, 2400 with me in it... I could probably have taken it to 2100 or even lower, but A/C, carpeting, and bumper supports etc are important to me

How much of a gain in performance are we looking at if you were to shave 200 - 400 pounds?

OK for some hard info...

Using my favorite HP calculator, I figured how much power I would need to run a 14.9 at 92mph quarter-mile.

At 2700lb with driver, I'd require 161hp.
At 2600lb with driver, I'd require 155hp.
At 2500lb with driver, I'd require 149hp.
At 2400lb with driver, I'd require 143hp.
At 2300lb with driver, I'd require 137hp.
At 2200lb with driver, I'd require 131hp.

I won't go below that since it's VERY hard to get a 1st-gen below 2000lb. But you can see the pattern - each 100lb is worth about 6hp at this performance level.

Working on another tack - munging the numbers to see how quick the car would be with ONLY weight reduction, at the stock 100hp power level.

At 2700lb, we run 17.4 at 78mph. (About what a stock GSL would run)
At 2600lb, we run 17.2 at 79mph.
At 2500lb, we run 17.0 at 81mph. (About what a stock SA would run)
At 2400lb, we run 16.8 at 82mph.
At 2300lb, we run 16.5 at 83mph.
At 2200lb, we run 16.3 at 84mph.

So you see at that power level, each 100lb is worth about 2-3 tenths and 1 mph.

I was down to 1800lbs before I put the cage in with a 13b, 5gal. fuel cell. If you have ever taken the headliner out, there is tons of bracing in the sunroofed cars! Also, I scraped and scraped and scraped the tar off of the floors and took all of the sound deadner out......=23lbs.!!! In autocrossing they say every 10lbs is something like a 1/10th of a second and at nationals one year there were 14 cars all with in a 1/10 of a second!!!!

You can see my diet plan here:

Here:

http://www.dsm.org/tools/calchp.htm

Keep in mind that it calculates flywheel HP, NOT ground HP as the first page states.

It's also good to see how good you're driving... if your "ET horsepower" is down compared to your "MPH horsepower" then you know your shiftpoints are all wrong or you need to work on your launch, or both.

Rust... hehehe
I think that my prelude weighed about 100LB less than when it left the factory, just from all the missing metal. And the best part: It's FREE!
My FB is going to go on a diet as soon as I get it...
the interior will be GONE (I don't care if that's ricey, I want FAST dammit) and then I'll remove a bit of weight by porting it.. going to lose a good ounce or two there...
hehehe

UPDATE: Down to 980KG, that's 2160 lbs. I really wanted to get down to 2000lbs, but I think I'll cool it at 2100.....beginning to think bumper supports *might* be important to me too
