I forgot to set the multiple vote option til after I posted the poll. For some reason, the thread starter can't edit polls. Sorry guys.

Same thing with the OD on the auto tranny, couldn't edit the poll after I realized that I didn't make OD an option.

You got a 6 spd? What are your gear ratios? Got any dyno slips? Whats the highest mph you hit so far? Is it a street or track car?

Jeff
Sorry, guys...I thought that Jeff had called my bluff when he posted that reply...it's very possible, though, and based on the same principle as the Gear Vendors O/U Drive unit that's about to go in my '68 CBird...if I could pick one of those 6-speeds up on the cheap, I've already got the buds (one owns a machine shop and the other has a race car/bike fab shop...) who could make it reality...first I've got to win my Insurance battle which is still dragging on...

Feel free to flame me now, I was under the impression everyone knew I could be a jokester, hence the

5-speed here, but I'd eventually like to put a Hewland straight-cut 6 speed in (SGT H-gate), but that's part of my project to turn my car into a full race machine, and will probably never happen, especially given that its about a 9 thousand dollar tranny.

The '79-'80 (SA model) 5-speed transmissions were different from the later FB model transmissions and are easily identifiable by the more rearward shifter mounting location of the later transmissions. I don't know off the top of my head if the ratios were different between the two, though I suspect they are. I know there was a different transmission in the 13B equipped GSL-SE models, too, but I'm not experienced with the GSL-SE cars. The earlier SA transmissions are a straight bolt in to replace the "ribcase" transmissions used in the RX3 and RX4, by the way. The shifter is in the right location and the stock mounts will bolt right up. I think the 13B 5-speed ribcase transmissions were one of the strongest transmissions offerred by Mazda, but the synchros are somewhat weak, so it's a trade-off. The ribcases also have a removable bellhousing, which is nice. That's all I got for now. -WG

S4 T2 trans in my 83. Have a low mileage gsl-se trans just sitting in the garage and a 87 n/a one behind the garage that should be in the dumpster.

stock 5 spd here.... Just a bit of trivia that some, but not all knew. I've had 2 -SE's one 84 & one 85. The 85 had a much taller 5th gear than the 84. made a difference of about 22/23 mpg to 27mpg on highway trips...

How different is the gearing on a turboII tranny? Howabout S4 vs S5?
