what kind of electric fan are you running?
Hey
I have a 79 gs, and i think it's time for an e- fan upgrade. I've tried 2 different fan clutches, and they both throw black graphite, or charcoal, or whatever alll over my engine bay. Plus, they're LOUD! I can't even hear my engine over the stock fan.
So what, i'm gettting at is:
what's a good electric fan to upgrade to? There's one in the victoria british catalog for $130 that i've been looking at. Does anyone have any experiences with this or any other types of fans? Are they easy to install and do they work good?

I've heard of quite a few people using e-fans out of early '90s Ford Taurii, the Fiero GT or the early supercharged MR2. I'm sure they can be found cheap at the bone yard.
I know that the Taurus fan shroud fits perfectly over the stock radiator, but I am not certain if modding is needed for the others.

'80's MR2 E-Fans
Five minute installation time once your old stuff is removed. Drill two holes into the metal shroud on the fans and bolt it on using stock shroud mounting holes and bolts. It comes with two fans and they really kick out the air. I'm currently running only one fan (long story), been doing it all summer actually, and still runs nice and cool. Got it for 20 bucks at the Junkyard, acid dipped it and painted it. 18 bucks for the automatic fan control at Autozone and I was all set.

I haven't done a E-fan yet, but I've been thinking about it. Here's what I've gleaned from the forum:
-shroud is very important
-ON/OFF control requires a little work
I think I'd go for a pusher, too, just to open up some room around the engine.

It is almost a perfect fit. Some minor trimming here and there was necessary.

whole radiator though. So if it was a Shorty/Thick Radiator, with the Oil Cooler Under the Radiator - then I think it would work.

Here's that 38 dollar MR2 setup....
1. Shows the hook on the top of the fan shroud. This hangs onto the lip on the top of the radiator rather nicely.
2. Then, just drill two holes in the shroud to match up with a couple of the original shroud mounting holes. Use original bolts to mount the new fans.
You can either run them both using the same fan control, or set them up with two controls so that one will come on before the other. I am currently using only one of the fans, even that is cooling just fine for me. Haven't had an issue all summer.

LOL. The fans fit great on the stock radiator, but when I upgraded to the 2nd gen radiator I found it did not fit so well. The new radiator is just a little too wide to mount the fan the same way, so I'll need to fab some brackets or something. I rigged it up with just the one fan as a temporary fix, but it cools so good anyway that finishing it has moved way down the list of important things I must do.

Man Kentetsu I keep on looking at your setup and think how nice it is and how much space you have... And wonder why I don't have the same space and then like a dumbass I realize that my 13B is longer. Doh!?!?!
