I am not ENTIRELY sure, after trying to figure out what that thing is, but I want to guess EGR valve. (I'm not entirely sure if rotarys have one, tho.) Doesn't your hood have the rats nest diagram on it? If it does, check with that.

Okay, I just checked my Haynes manual, that thing should be either the "vacuum switch" or maybe an "air control valve". And it looks like it's held on by one hex bolt. What size I don't know. I'm doing the best that I can by looking at the diagrams to help you out.

Do you have a 12A or 13B motor?

Bah, all these solenoids and valves look alike in this book. :P Well, there you go. It should be held on with just maybe one bolt from the looks of it.

LOOK VERY CAREFULLY.......

there is another vac port under there......

Its actually under where the shutter valve is, It is capped from the factory but after 20years the caps are usually in bad shape. That where your probably getting the leak...

Yes you can take off the shutter valve but i think that you need to remove the carb and manifold to do it.....

Looking at your pic you need to get the right cap for the big port on the shuttervalve.

Try to get a smaller plug to go in the hole and then cap it on top.....

Hope this helped

Like jay said, there is another manifold port under there. You'll want to make sure that's capped properly. As far as the shutter valve goes, if it's bad you'll hear a honking noise. Do a search on "shutter valve" and you'll get more info. You don't need to remove it, though. You can just wire it open, leaving the vacuum lines attached. You can't just remove it. THen you'd need to remove the butterfly within the manifold and that's a PITA that's not worth the trouble in my opinion. If you want, you can find a SA intake manifold - no shutter valve for them - and replace your later manifold with it.

Ok what Ive tried I went outside when i had no customers and I pushed the rod all the way into the valve and I started to get proper idle it wasent jumpy or sounded wierd so what im going to do is wire the rod in the closed position cause it seemed to solve the problem but i will check the plug and replace it just in case

-thanks
i will let you know what the results are

Ok I know Im bugging people but the valve has to be wired half way right like when its fully open it makes the butterfly stay closed or open? so I need to wire the pin that comes out of the valve at half closed cause when I pushed it further the engine started stalling on me also how the hell do i get to the little manifold port its bueried under that F'in valve, anyone know what size it is so that I can just buy a replacement take that one out and put a new one in

-thanks

Yes, You want to wire it so the butterfly is open. I think that's when the valve is closed, but I'm not sure. If you inadvertently wire the butterfly closed, you'll have a lot less mixture to the rear rotor than you want.

Sorry, not sure of the nipple size down there.

I removed mine on friday and it was actually pretty straight forward. Just remove the carburetor and that will expose the butterfly and the shutter valve. Remove the two bolts holding the valve in place and unhook it from the rod. I took a wood screw and threaded it into the tiny hole on the butterfly so I wouldn't have to fish it out if I dropped it. Remove the two screws holding the butterfly in place of the rod (be VERY careful! you don't want to drop anything down the intake!!) Take the retainer pin off the stub side of the rod and slide it out of the manifold towards the driver side (i had to bend the rod to clear the top of the motor). Once I had everything off I used JB Stick weld to fill the holes.
Pretty easy!
