What the heck was this thing
What the heck was this thing
So, driving around the other day I hear this dragging sound from beneath the car. It was a long metal tube that was connected to the cat. Popping the hood I notice that the end of the tube goes into a rubber hose that leads to the engine. I unscrewed the clamp and removed the tube. Immeadiately It seems that the car
has more power and quicker acceleration. So, my question is what was that thing, and do I need to have it put back on? Thanks.

Sounds like the Air hose from the Air pump to the Cat. You only need it on for emmissions purposes.
If you run the car with cats and no air pump, you will fry the cats. Investing in a little money into an exhaust system wouldn't hurt - and give a generous power increase.

when i got the car it had extractors already and a cat on the end. and the cold air pump was redirected to the cat..and it sure does back fire.. used to get flames with the old exhaust, now i just get the bang
My air pump's line that goes to the cats was cut when I got my car. The cats were so clogged from it that it actually kept the car from running. It was a bitch trying to figure out what the problem was, since I didn't know very much at all about 1st gens when I bought my car. But then again, I got a sweet deal on a car that really didnt have anything wrong because of it
Once, there was a cat, and it was positioned just to the rear of my exhaust manifold...when i went to go start the engine, the cat got sucked into the fan and I had ALOT of detailing to do.
