what the heck? fuel pump 12A->GSL-SE

i'm chaning my 12A fuel pump into a gsl-se, along with the gslse fuel filter and such. The 12a fuel pump is connect to a "thing" and then out to the engine, when doing the transplant, question isdo i need that thing or should i leave it in? gslse don't have one though..

FUEL TANK -> FUEL FILTER -> FUEL PUMP -> CHECK VALVE? -> ENGINE (FUEL RAILS)

o yeah how do some people get away using the stock fuel tank? i'm using brass fittings to convert the small to big, later on once my power goes up i'm going to do something with the fuel tank inorder to run a larger line most likly -8 an lines..

Umm... if you're using EFI, you CAN'T use a stock 12A pump...

A little off topic Mike, do you have any pics of your FB? I had an 82 that I loved. Gonna bring it to the track?

BTW..My fuel pump on my 82 messed my car up once, lol.

no pics no track time yet, car has no engine now, i just sold the engine and transmission to a guy who loves the 12A.

it's a piece that is in-between the fuel pump and carb.

Are you talking about what is under the hood? There is a check valve that sits about 8 inches away from the carb, on the fuel return line? And has a direction arrow on it?
If so, then you do not need it if running FI, but I don't see how you are not going to use a 'se fuel tank.

The SE tank is better, has alot larger fuel lines comming out of it.

Either that or sump the old tank.

Just a guess, but is this part close to the fuel pump, white, one inlet and one outlet. IT might be your fuel cut incase of a roll over.

if it is circular it's a fuel pressure regulator.

there one by the pump, and one the fuel rail

i know what's a fuel pressure regulator, it's not it. I think it's what chuck8313BTSDS said, the roll over thing, it's a lil plastic piece that goes in and out to the engine compartment, it's next to the pump not engine bay.

zyounker - what you mean by sump? do you mean surge tank?

surge tank is only needed if i was keeping the carb pump and wanting to use the efi pump also to help fuel starvation.

I don't know what that thing is myself. but,, I do know
that the 12a fuel tank IS WAY different then the -SE's.
The -SE's use a drop-in pick-up/return line. while the 12a's are welded and are seperate from each other.
I'm screwing around right now with my -SE's fuel, pump,
filter, tank. Where i'm at now is ::: i went to the junkyard and picked up a 2ed gen drop-in pump/pick-up/return
line. The mounting looks to be close as far as size and shape for whole assembly. The 2ed gen pump is for a 13b with EFI, so fuel presure is the same as the -SE .
It's hard as hell to find a -SE fuel tank, and to buy a new -SE fuel pump is way to much money from mazdatrix. I'm just trying different things on the -SE .

u got pictures of what your trying to say? i know carbs have different style tanks, but i wasn't sure how different.

and what you mean "2ed gen drop-in pump/pick-up/return", i had a second gen, turbo one and the return lines just goes from the primaries rail, then straight back to the tank, are you refering to whats inside the tank?

For Pete's sake, people....it's a check valve like he thinks. If he should ever put the car on the roof, that valve stops gas flow from the tank. It's a safety thing....get a Mallory pump instead of the stock thing, BTW...

Yeah, the 2ed gens have a ' drop-in' fuel pump. meaning. that there is a screw-on 'plate' 7 screws, cork type gasket, this plate has 3 'tubes' (-SE tank ) 1 and the largiest 'fitting' is the main 'pick-up'.2 is smaller in size.thats the 'return' line. 3 i guess is a vent. anyway.
the 2ed gen 'plate' does not line up to the -SE, it's bigger. So i ,, with some engineering , the 2ed gen pump
(the pick-up, is the pump) was made to fit the -SE ' plate.I didn't use the fuel level sender from the 2ed gens
assembly, I left the stock -SE's sender. I turn out pretty good. tomorro i'll install the tank. it works because i tested it using water. the tank is drying overnight, maybe all day too.

ough i bought me a gsl-se one?..and use some brass fitings to make the fuel lines from the tank to become larger for the fuel pump, then evrything conects just like that, and u need the plate that holds the pump also.

Is it me or what? How do you expect to get the increase in fuel volume out of the tank by just putting on larger brass fittings.

i'm not trying get more "volume" i just need it to work for the time being, because i need the hear the engine to start to know what is needed to be done with the engine. I know it'll still run same about as the carb because the size of the line but the pressure is higher which will able me to run the car for a few mins.

i notice the lines coming out from the gsl-se fuel tank is larger, the metal tubing that is connect to the frame with 10mm nut is also larger, about two times. But i think the gas tank itself is the same, it doesn't matter now i'm not getting a gsl-se fuel tank anymore, just going run a larger external fuel pump, most likly walbro, and do somesort of conversion to the 12A tank if it is different from the inside. If all fails i'm going fuel cell tank.
