it's 3.15 here, and with the 7 i don't care about fuel mileage, i drive it because it puts a smile on my face, but to save money i'm gonna start to go to bed earlier so i can ride my bike to work (and I may ride my road bike to class, it's about 10 miles one way with rush hour traffic, faster and more economical, but only if I can keep my bike in the classroom. would you lock up a 2,000 bike on a college campus?)

BP12A, MSD Blaster 2's, Holly 465 w/ RB intake, RB SP header, RB duals, no rats nest, e-fan, no interior (besides the two seats that need to be replaced and dash)

Yeah, 'cause the US is the only country in the world that deserves economic growth.

At any rate, I'll just cut down on excessive driving, and perhaps sacrifice some potential savings this year and buy an econobox beater. Wintertime is when driving the RX really hurts, since the cold weather sucks down the gas.

Lol, I drive my little SOHC 1.5L Hyundai Accent. I have a new found love for that...Economy button by the auto tranny shift handle. Press it down for normal driving, and depress it for Economy. I think the longest I made it was about 10 days without refueling.

Recent gas prices leave me kicking myself in the *** for not searching out a Hyundai Accent. I looked at a 98 that was in excellent condition, but the mileage was crazy so I didn't get it. 279K KM is what kept me from buying it, along with the $3800 asking price. As it is, I only paid $3600 for a 97 T-Bird thats a hell of a lot faster and had way fewer KMs, 210K KM to be exact.

You need to realize that is my opinion only, as is the following. I don't mind if "hypothical democratic China" has economic growth- as long as it doesn't cost our countries prospered agenda. But what you may not know is happening RIGHT NOW -with exploding economic growth, comes military build-up of China, a country of 1.2billion people and growing rapidly- the next super power after USSR colasped. USA is less then 300million people. That directly threatens us if nothing changes, as it could surpass our Military in less then 20 years easily. I don't speak for anyone by me, but I don't want Communist Chinese Military bases spread around the globe - AND on US soil in 30 years because we finianced their growth by buying their goods.

Anyway, back to MPG, its good to hear some peoples ideas. Don't we all wish, 1.1L 12a engines actually got what typical 1.1piston engines got for MPG. Then we would all have more money for other stuff then driving.

I guess my main plan for myself is to drive much less. And long trips will be much much less common.

We hit $3.50 here in NY. I now drive a chevy aveo, daewoo in disguise. But I get 40mpg if i drive like grandma. Problem is that the increased gas mileage doesn't ease any of the pain in paying $3.50 a gallon. Since the 7 isn't my daily driver I still consider it cheap fun on the weekends.

I thought of a couple more fuel savings measures(by the way, I am not crazy, but I want to hear all rational ideas to save fuel as its needed when gas is above $3 gallon)... Use possibly synthetic gear lube in manual tranny and rear end and not fill them quite up to the filler hole.

For those who have a weber, Holley, or some carb with the ablity to change jets and accerator pump jet nozzles and pump shot size:

Here in Minnesota, they have the subizidized E85 at some fuel stations that can be used with Flex fuel vehicles-Late model Mazda, Ford, and a couple others have the option for this on select models, that come with density sensors in their fuel tanks to re-calulate the correct fuel metering into the engine, which could be replicated with a carb with roughly 30% higher fuel delievery jets -

E85 which is 85% grain achohol and 15% gasoline. The problem with it is, they tend to raise its price in parrelel with any gasoline price increases, which keeps it a "bad" deal when you calulate the BTU's Per cost. This has been done in a sneaky way, because grain achohol is not from crude oil, the price should only go up 15% as gasoline goes up. But this has not been the case. However, with huge spikes, the price has started to break away apparrently, now at $2.19/gallon for E85 and $2.99/gallon gasoline. SO>>>>>

gasoline: 114,000BTU's/gallon $2.99/gallon or 381 BTU's per 1 cent.
E85: 81,000BTU's/gallon $2.19/gallon or 369 BTU's per 1 cent.

The point I am trying to make is if gasoline spikes past $3, E85 fuel should not increase as much, and could actually be more affordable when comparing BTU's per cost to use for a first time for those willing to re-jet their carbs to take advantage of it. Granted, you will get less MPG, but the lower cost of E85 with the lower cost per BTU could justify it. However, I think gasoline will eventually drop. Afterall, I am certain the public is NOT using much in New Orleans.

dont' drive it if you can help it.

hybirds might get better fuel economy but you get killed at the dealership. you would have to drive for a long time before you see any kind of savings at the pump.

After smogging my car, I never put the header back on.
Stock exhaust manifold with cat replacement pipe. Why? It has more torque. More torque means not having to get the RPMs higher to get the car moving. Not having to get the revs high means less gasoline consumption.
Sure I have a little less peak horsepower, but I don't drive my car around at redline all the time like on a track anyways.
