The Emissions Control Unit does just that, controlls emissions. But I haven't removed mine because I don't know if it will affect anything that I care about. Doesn't look like it by the wiring diagram in the heynes though.

I don't think the oil pressure and water temp run there at all. The one that goes to the start terminal of the ignition switch is to engage the fuel pump when cranking. You can bypass the fuel pump relay, and then you won't need that. You can always check how it would effect things by just unplugging the ECU.

i would but the car is in pieces, lol. can you find out how the oil preesure and water temp wires are routed? the oil level and some other thing are in the same connector but i dont have those hooked up.

The oil level, oil pressure, and water temp should all go from their sender directly to the gauge cluster. Your best bet is probably take the wiring diagram and start tracing wires and figuring out what you need and what you don't. You will have to bypass the fuel pump relay if you have an 84/85 car, but other than that you don't really need the ECU at all.
