What to get?

So help me out here.. what should I do for my car? My bday is coming up here and everyone is asking me what I want.. So what do I ask for? I was thinking of getting the exterior painted which would also mean I get to replace my 2 fuckedup (rusted, cutup and dented) fenders yay... So what do you think? Good or bad? Also if I get it painted whats everyone's opinion on those cheapie places like in n out paint? I had a quote done there that came out to 800 and it was about the mid grade paint said it came with a 3yr warranty. I think its really my only affordable choice now, I took the car to the best known body shop in town and asked them how much and they quoted me over $5000 for a complete exterior restoration which is a bit over my price range...

As far as perf. mods i'm not sure what to get there. I already have a complete exhaust system minus headers.

Tks guys.

With paint you get what you pay for!! I'm currently becoming certified as an automotive refinisher. And I can tell you there are alot of steps that people cut corners on!

You get what you pay for in paint. There are many threads here about what is good and what isn't. I recently went with a local shop that charged about $1500 for paint and prep. The color that I chose was BZ/21T, "Chrome Yellow Clearcoat" from the 2003 Mazda 6 line and it came out beautiful. This included all of the prep work on the car to fix door dings and other imperfections. This did NOT include removal of side rubber moldings, etc., as this was simply (and carefully) taped and painted.

The base price at this paintshop would have been around $1000 for any color that was in their stock, but since I wanted a 'custom' factory Mazda color, the price went up $250. Additionally, they charged a few hundred more for color-matching the insides of the door wells, sunroof and hatch area, inside the hood, etc. This all completes the 'Factory' look of the paint color change, and was money well spent on my part. They also removed all the aftermarket bodywork prior to paint and prep, allowing me to remove parts if I ever need to, and it will look good.

If you choose to go with anything less than $1000, you're going to be disappointed with the result. You get what you pay for with a paintjob and if you intend to keep the car, save some money and do it right. Redoing will cost you $2000, and that's not saving any money, is it???

I only recommend paint after you've done whatever other performance modifications (and appearance mods) that you intend to do. I put off my paint job for almost a year while I finished up the exterior parts that I wanted to get. Once I had them installed, I took it in for paint - middle of summer to get good baking effect in the AZ heat.

While the car was in paint, I ordered new side/front/rear marker light lenses, and other small parts and accessories that would bring it back to fresh appearance. The results turned out great, but I could have spent a lot more on paint - if you try to skimp by, you'll be disappointed. YMMV,

Oh.. i meant under 13 secs maybe even in 13 secs. Come on guys I know its possible. Given the weight of the car you would only need 175-200 HP... And my friends car with just an exhaust and smog pump removed makes 120. Just need 55 HP.. So headers, pulley, carb and some good tuning do you think its possible? Oh yeah and I live 2 blocks from Mariah im sure they could do it.
