What gauges should I get

What gauges should I get. I'm getting close to completing my engine build and want to supplement the stock gauges with aftermarket. I would like to get oil pressure, oil temp, and water temp. I would like to house them in the center console. I already have the ReSpeed oil pedestal installed. It can accommodate the oil temp and oil pressure gauges. Where would be the best place to connect for water temp? Also what manufacture and model number is good?

Thanks

Eric

I like my Autometer's. This going in the 1st gen I take it. Have you seen what I did with mine? Since I moded an aftermarket fuel sender, I blanked the dual side gauges in the cluster and replaced all the gauges except the speedo and tach.

I personally like my iEquus gauges. They are the 8000 series. I've got the matching speedometer on the way. I was going to use the stock one but decided to go with the matching iEquus one. Here is a pic. I used a voltmeter, water temp and oil pressure gauges in the far left, arranged similar to stock, and a tach in the center. Also, where the radio was I fiberglassed a flat panel in and put my fuel level and wideband A/F gauge there. The A/F gauge is AEM as iEquus doesn't make a wideband.

I like Defi -- they have a cool bezel ring that you can adjust to show the red zone for any measurable.

Take a look at these: http://www.prosportgauges.com/prospo..._series_ga.htm

There was a group buy on them a while ago on here. I honestly think they look like awesome gauges, every review I have read about them has been good and others seem to have good luck with them. Pricing is hands down amazing for what you get.

But if you are going all out then I would go with high end autometer gauges or Defi where gauge readings are critical to the cars performance and longevity.

Dan, those prosports look good, never heard of them. Price is reasonable too.

Eric, as far as gauge ranges, the op gauge shuold the 150 psi one and the oil temp gauge will be the same as the coolant temp one, just uses a different sender.

I got the set a few years back for less than $50. The water temp's probe is sealed just like the autometer. As far as quality, it works as good as the autometer also. I did my comparison with the equus behind the water pump housing and autometer on the t-stat cover.

I was an kragen the other day and I found Eqquus gauges in the conservative black face. However, they only sell them as individual for about $20each and my bro's store no longer carry them due to new management. I will be ordering a full trio set as I need it for my newly acquired RX-3.

There is the site with a listing of all their gauges. I have the same gauges as wackyracer does, and I agree they are quite accurate. They look good too IMO. If you check my pics they work together nicely. I've got the matching 160mph speedometer on the way. Their quite affordable too. The whole set of equus gauges I got cost about $300, mabey a little more. Thats a mechanical oil pressure gauge, voltmeter, and electrical water temp gauge (came with sender too) in 1 1/2" size, fuel level in 2", 8000rpm tach and 160mph speedo in 3 3/8" size. A similar set from Autometer would probably cost $500.

Well, if I had to buy gauges again, I'd go Equus... but I landed an three gauges on Ebay (the exact three I wanted, water temp, oil temp and oil pressure) for a damn good deal so I grabbed those instead.

Talking I maybe a cheap *** but I spend my $$ wisely to support 4 RX's.

I couldnt resists. I found it at Kragen. Ordered the triple set (chrome with black face, 280% sweep) on-line and it will be ready for pick-up tomorrow at Kragen @ hollywood. Its cheaper to buy the trio gauges than buying individual ones for appx $20 a piece.

Equus Triple Gauge Kit: Oil/Volt/Water; 2"; Chrome
Part Number: 7200
Price: $32.99.

Hmmm are those are with electronic sending units? I priced out 6 autometer gauges and it looks like the ones I want (either nexus or Cobalts) will be over 1200 dollars, which uhhh sucks...

I guess I don't really need flashy gauges though...

Im bored!!!
. Well, I returned the chrome gauges as its not a full sweep. Apparently, they had the wrong pix on @ partsamerica.com.

I ordered individual gagues on line and picked it up at Kragen; within 20 minutes after I placed the order. Not bad for less than $50.

I'd like to know how you got the autometers so cheap Trochoid. I priced it out for the similar gauges to the ones I have by Equus, and it was $400. Thats the Ultra Lite series of gauges with 2 1/16" Electric water temp, voltmeter, GM 0-90ohm fuel gauge, mechanical oil pressure, 3 3/8" 160mph mechanical speedometer and 10000 rpm tach. Those gauges wouldn't have even worked for me as I needed the water temp, voltmeter and oil pressure gauges in 1 1/2", which would have been cheaper. So far, the Equus gauges have cost me:

-$100 for 160mph mechanical speedo, 3 3/8"
-$100 for 8000rpm tach, 3 3/8"
-$40 for electric water temp gauge, 1 1/2"
-$35 for 3 gauge set of 1 1/2" mechanical water temp (not used), oil pressure and volt meter
-$25 for fuel gauge (same as autometer unit).

Thats roughly $300 for basically the same set of gauges in Equus instead of Autometer. They look very similar to the autometer ultralites and have the same accuracy. My only gripe is the nighttime lighting, its not great on the Equus gauges. But I don't mind that at all.

Oil pressure and vac/boost are mechanical, the volt, temp and fuel are electric. Kept the stock speedo and tach. All are the Ultralite series. There are some that can get quite expensive like the wideband, egt and D-pic., which I would like to add also. If you want to be spendy on the Autometers, price out the Nexus gauges, ouch.
