What Exactly is the "Pedal Assembly"? Auto to 5spd.
Hey Fellas,
I purchased an 83 gsl parts car as a donor for the 5 spd swap and I have been out in the garage gutting it. I already got out the master and slave cylinders, and will likely drop the transmission today. I have been told that the pedals are the hardest part of the swap. Everyone says to take out the pedal assembly but when I look under the dash it looks like the brake and clutch assembly trails back and bolts to the steering column. Am I trying to take out too much? There's like a billion wires under there so I can't see very well. How much do I need to take out and how do you get it out easily? I think I'm trying to take out more of the pedals than I need to. A pic of a removed pedal assembly would be greatly appreciated so I can see what I'm trying to remove. I think I'm just attempting to remove too much. I will try and post pics of what it looks like later today when I get the film developed.... Thanks!

Airflow is my life
No your not attempting to remove too much. You need to remove the pedal assembly from the firewall, and also from the steering column. The whole pedal assy and support (all the black painted metal) needs to come out.

haha, its funny you bring this up, I just removed the pedal assembly last night on my project, and yes its a bitch to take out, even with the entire car gutted, if its just a parts car and you don't care you could just tear the wires out of the way, cause they are everywhere. Oh and when you take the pedal assembly off be careful teh brake booster doesn't fall off in the engine bay (if you want to keep it that is) cause 4 of the nuts removed for teh pedals hold that on. Good luck
