What does the stock carb need to run?

What must be connected to the stock carb for it to work? I'm trying to troubleshoot an engine that has a bizzare variety of things removed from it, so what connections are absolutely necessary for it to work, and what needs to be blocked off? Any good links would be appreciated too, the search function doesnt seem to work anymore...

Go to the "Facts" section of Mazspeed.com, and you'll find the "Rat's nest removal tutorial".

There are lots more things that can be removed than are covered in carl and pratch's tutorial. I'd suggest taking a few pics of the carb and posting them here or at the hosting provider of your choice.

Then we can take a look at what's missing versus what needs to be there.

If you can't do the picture thing, I suggest getting your hands on a Haynes manual or FSM and comparing what's there for you against what the manual shows. The manual will tell you what it's called, and you can post questions about whether XYZ is needed.

I think I found the problem, theres no fuel return line, its just plugged off with a bolt. If fixing this doesn't work, i'll post up some pictures later.

The rats nest removal guide was kind of helpful, except everything on that has already been removed, as well as many other things :P

The plugged return is refered to as "deadheading".
It shouldn't effect any of the system.

huh, I would've thought it'd jack up the fuel pressure. So, why is the return line there if its not needed (not doubting it, just confused)?

Also, the secondary throttle butterflys should be open when I pull the throttle all the way, right?

On a stock setup, you need a fuel return line to make sure your float bowls don't overfill with fuel. Do you have flooding problems? If so, then lack of a return line might explain them.

The secondaries are vacuum-operated unless someone converted to mechanical secondaries. You won't see the secondaries open by moving the throttle by hand.

Look in the FAQ for links to a tour of the wonderful world of Nikki mods.
