He means the filter that connects where the Velocity stacks are around. Great filter, but it will not clear my alternator, hence the socks. Now since I have the LC manifold, the socks will fit but be very mushed against the hard lines for the heater hose.

Ok, I think I know what you mean...lol. How did you like the socks for the filter, work good? Or just better without them?

Velocity stacks have thier familiar bell mouth shape, (actually a hyperbolic curve), for a very specific reason. It increases air flow. The socks interfer with the shape and flow. However, having both velocity stacks surrounded by a filter box leaves the openings open, allowing them to suck air better. The filter box also allows the stacks to feed each other through the overlap inherent in a rotary engine. If you look closely at the bottom inner llip of the stacks at idle, you may notice tiny drops of fuel that have collected. That's because the overlap can spit the fuel mixture out of the carb.
