What do you love about owning a 1st Gen..

Well, I ask this question to 3rd gen guys.. but I'm thinking about buying a 1st gen and thought I ask you guys..

Do you love the car itself?

Is it the rarity?

The people with rotaries?

The women??

Please post your thoughts..

Ever drove a car with a turbo? once you do that, you miss the wastegate and blow of sound on any other car.

Same thing with the sound of the rotary. Not only that, also the sleek low profile of its body, the cockpit interior... gotta love it.

I like the look of the 1st gen, how it drives like it's a go-cart, how fun it is to throw around and how everybody comes up to me with their stories when they used to own a 1st gen.

I love the infinite fabrication work you can put into it. Its such a basic machine to begin with, but you can do whatever you want with it. More than any other car the 1st Gen RX-7 is like clay, it is what you want it to be.

Phil, you thinking of going old school huh? With the detail you have put into your FDs, I don't doubt for a second that you can produce a wicked FB.

I love the fact that they are insanely inexpensive to keep up, but the aftermarket leaves something to be desired. Everything that is worth damn is priced higher than most of the cars value.

Otherwise, they handle great. Look classic. Are cheap. Easy to do just about any work yourself. The people in the community are great and many times will give you parts.

Hey Phil, you wanna buy mine?

What i love about owning a first generation is all of the above!

I wanted a car that i could be proud of. That was not just another car that was
in fashion. A classic car. A different car. A unique car. An exciting car to drive.
A car that is ahead of time and yet it is from the past. Timeless.
Beautiful!

Yes, it's not like a mustange, eclipse, or honda. You don't see them every twenty feet. Just nice owning something you can't just pickup at the dealership.

Is it the rarity?
Yes

The women??
I will not answer this due to the fact my wife my see it, lol.

I like the fact I paid 850 for a clean car, straight body, and it's totally reliable. Aftermarket parts aren't something you see everyday, making you have to be creative(direct fire, exhaust, cup holders, lol...). I just like the simplicity of my FB. I can do all my own labor(for the most part). I dunno......

I love when I pop the hood and the expressions on people's face when they see the engine. "What the hell is that" is what they say. I just smile at them. Most of my friends are mechanics. I also love the 1st gens body style and flip up headlights.

Rx7s have been around me all my life. My mom had an 81 back then in 81. She actually drove me home from the hospital when i was born in 82 w it. Then my dad streetported it, installed headers, a mikuni, and a whale tale. My moms ride back then was dope!!! (ive got pics but i gotta scan them, and i dont have a scanner)
i just love these 1st gens cuz of their sexy looks, their excellent handling, and the fact that my dad is an RX7 genius. i never have to take my car to a mechanic.

Simplicity.

There isn't much that's fancy about it. No computer controlling the engine. No computers controlling the transmission or the differential. Not that I'm against technology, but sometimes it's really about the car and driver.

Also, newer cars tend to gain a lot of weight from options and safety equipment. So, if you're someone who doesn't mind something more bare-bone, look at an older car for less weight.

I love how the car looks different, how people don't confuse it with other cars, they either say, "i used to own" one or "whats that?" I also love the balance, I might not smoke cars in a straight line, but when subarus and saturns think they can take me up or down a hill that I drive on to work, I show them whos boss. Also chicks dig the pop-ups, and the cars roofline comes up to my waist. (I'm 6'4") also, I drive a pure sports car at 18. Oh Yeah

This works right up until you get into an accident.
