What to do with my Exhaust system (searched and still searching)

Done some searching found a lot of good info, but nothing satisfying my all my questions.

I have a stock 1980 and was thinking about removing cat with straight pipe or presilencer to a Borla muffler. Should I just keep the cat? I don’t want to remove my emissions yet so I’m going to still keep the stock manifold. The 7 is only used for street. I’m just looking a little performance and throatier sound upgrade.
Maybe just the muffler is my best bet.

My questions are
Will the system work with emissions?
How loud will it be?
Straight pipe or presilenser, which is better in my situation?
If I go straight pipe should I go Borla or racing beat pipes?
And for the Borla muffler S-type or Boomer (or if there is a better Borla)?
(If I ever get caught the presilenser looks more like a cat than a straight pipe anyway) +

These questions probably have already been asked if so Sorry, I just haven’t come across them yet. (But still looking)
Thanks in advance

im 20 and im not for sale

it all depends on if you want both or just one. id highly recommend both though. they would sound really deep and youd get a great gain with your current set up. then if you wanted to add a header later itd be even better. i also have a header too. the only part missing from the complete exhaust is the RB presilencer. its pending sale for the funds to clear in my paypal account, but i dont see that going sour.

the mufflers were only used for about 3 months. theyre still in like new condition. there are mounts made to the borla so its a straight bolt in and go.

if youre serious about it, pm me.

aws has a great setup, you should really consider. he DID put a lot of time and thought into it to achieve a great outcome for his exhaust system.

Borla FTW. Basically Racing Beat, Magnaflow, and Borla are capable to stand up to rotary heat and pulses so far. Some people just grab a muffler off ebay or a Pep-Boys special. Sounds like crap and will not last long. Here is a pic from my old SA, the PO put a generic muffler, and one good backfire later....

Jeezus,
Thanks I will have to stay away from the enjen.

Are the Boomers and S-Type from Borla good. They just look like there hi flow 1 stage muffler. I just like the look of them better. They should give me a good sound.

I run a Borla ProXS muffler. I got it off ebay brand new for 80$ shipped. I think the seller was NikkiExhaust or something. I'll see if I can find a link.

Thank you

Do they bolt right up, or did you have to weld a flange on it?

What I did was from the RB header to the ProXs muffler. Basically, I used the flange from the old exhaust that bolts up to the header, I think it was for the cat. Cut that off, and went to Autozone for an Exhaust pipe fitting, not sure how to describe it, but it is a pipe maybe 6" long, that is from 2" on one side to 2.5" on the other. You want one side to be 2" for the header side, and 2.5" OD or ID Depending on the muffler. Welded the 2" side to the flange, and used an exhaust gasket from some ford. On the 2.5" side, I had the Borla and flange to be 2.5"OD, and got them Butt-welded together. Thats all to get the first Borla to the header (and still remove it down the road if you want), and then I took it to a shop to get the rest done.

Up here in NC I hear that most shops will not touch anything header back because of emission laws and whatnot, so they only did "cat"back exhaust.

I'm planning on running long primaries (road race header, 2") back to the axles into a backwards Borla 40348 Pro-XS muffler, which is a single 2.5 in, dual 2.5 out. The borla will act as a muffler and a collecter. After that a 2.5" single pipe over the axle into an ebay dumpy tip muffler, which probably won't last long, but I'm using it more to keep my bumper from melting again. (and keeping the soot off of it)

Loose the cats, and put in a presilencer from Racing Beat if you can afford it. Cats choke the exhaust and rob power, and since you're in Michigan.....

Kentetsu how did the race go on 5th (I think that was the date). I got out of class to late for the long drive.

This project will go into effect around April when she comes out of storage. I just put it in. I was thinking about swapping the cat with presilencer. But it would have to work properly with emissions on the car. If I had the knowledge I would take off all emissions.

So cat comes out presilencer goes up. The presilencer will bolt to the stock collector?
And have you heard any good info on the Enjen mufflers, Borla boomers? Because its going to be on of the 2.

Removing the emmisions is not really a big deal. Just look in the FAQ section under "rat's nest removal". Really cleans up the engine bay, and leaves room for a lot less to go wrong on the car. If you get the entire racing beat exhaust, it comes with the necessary blockoff plates, but they can be easily fabbed too.

Check with Bruceman either here or on the Michigan forum. He is running a custom exhaust system that incorporates a Borla, if I'm not mistaken. And it sounds and performs great...

The race went great! I ended up running Perfect_circle's car (thanks again Cody) and we took 2nd and 3rd place in CSP. In fact, RX7s ended up taking 5 of the top 6 positions that day.

I have read the FAQ on emissions removal. It's stright forward, but when I do it I'm not going to cut an splice lines. I'm just going to run new ones. So the exhaust system will have to work with emmisions for a while.

I will send Bruceman a PM

Thanks
