what do you got ??? an s, gs,gsl,SE ?? If you've got an s, or a gs. Then you will need the whole rearend from the same year gsl as your car (to make it simple) You will get disk rear brakes that way, You can also get just the 3rd member from the gsl. that has the gears and the lsd, it's called the carrier. on your car, jack up the rear, use good jack stands !...remove: wheels, pull the axles, unbolt the driveshaft. remove all the bolts/nuts
that hold the 3rd member.then pull it out, it's heavy so carefull. On a rearend WITH disk brakes do the same removal's then replace your old carrier with the new carrier. If you've got the time and place to work, i'd say use the gsl whole rearend, because of the disk brake
UP-grade. that is a bit more involved but is straight forward. make sure to get the e-brake cable too

I switched my rear end to an SE type. I've got a 79, and it was a snap. Pulling it was just about as easy as bolting it in to my car. The only thing I had to do special was get some new brake lines and change the old fittings on my brake system to the compatible thread patter, SA's have a course thread later models went to a finer thread.
This swap is straightforward and relatively simple!
Good luck! Let us know if you run into any probls!

The thing when you use an SE rearend,,is that the axles
will have a different lug bolt pattern then what the front has. You'll have to use SE wheels on the rear. FYI

That's IF you're going -SE.
Remember, you can get LSD and Disc brakes from a GSL of the same year, which will use the same tires.
I don't know about the SA models having a GSL, but I know that all the FBs have GSL. Since you didn't mention what year car you have, for us it's guesswork.
Here's a good example though. I have a 1984 GS. This currently has the crappy differential and drum brakes. My friend Eric has a 1984 GSL, which has the Limited Slip differential and Disc brakes. The easiest thing for me to do would be to take his entire rear end and put it on my car.
I *could* go for the rear off an '84 or '85 GSL-SE, but it'd be more of a pain in the *** because then I would need the -SE wheels, since the -SE's had a different wheel bolt pattern.
Am I just rambling, or is this making some sense?

Your kinda of rambling,,,oh well. what people may not know is,,,one does not have to swap the whole rearend
to get a LSD. a drum brake rear can have a LSD from a GSL. But the disk brakes are always a plus.
