what color should paint it?

84SE-EGI helpy-helperton
Here's an interesting piece of information from someone who painted recently. My 84SE was previously the creme tan color that Mazda offered in 84 and blended into the traffic crowd really badly. I could park it in the parking lot at the local mall and have a hard time finding it later that day.
When I repainted with 2004 colors (BZ-21T Chrome Yellow Clearcoat) same as on the 2004 Mazda-6, I quickly noticed that people were looking at my car more frequently in traffic. This, I realize now, is a side-effect of a good looking car that has all the bodywork done and wheels, etc., but also, that yellow attracts the attention of other drivers if you get the right color.
What this means is that I know my car is much more visible during the daytime, which should help other drivers to see me and help avoid an accident that would damage my restoration project and eat up more money to fix - cheap insurance when you figure that you need other people to see you, since you can't always see other people as well. I figure if two of us are looking out, we're both less likely to bump into each other.
With that in mind, I recommend a bright color. The only downside is that if you're in the front of a 'fast-pack' on the freeway, the cop is going to see you, not the white minivan passing you at 20 over the limit! You definitely don't want to be in the back of a 'fast-pack' since you'll be the first to get picked off by a cruiser coming up from behind. HTH,

I dunno bout the bright colors standing out more thing.. The v9 code from '85 (if fresh and well clear coated) really stands out, especially when wet. It attracts a lot of attention in parking lots, on the highway..etc..I have had a lot of people stop me in parking lots and say "man- that is the sharpest looking 1st gen I've seen..Is that stock?"..I say "yep, sure is!"

love the braaaap
What about a nice Pearl White. IMO, black and white are the best colours on the cars. This might be because all the first gens that I looked at were either black or white. The second gen I looked at was red and looked UGLY.
PS. I like the first gen styling over any other RX-7. This might have influenced my decision. Theres just something about it that draws me to it.

Mine was silver, but didn't care much for the stock silver.
I repainted mine 2002 Honda Accord silver. Turned out half decent.
Also if you stick with the stock color or something sort-of close you can get by with not having to paint the engine compartment, inside of doors and such. Unless you want to.
