What color should I paint my car?

I just took a belt sander to the 7, sanded off all the rust I could. Then I threw some rustoleum paint on there in the meantime. Now I need to decide what color to paint it. What do you think? Normal black, flat black, or something else? I want it low key, so it looks cool, yet doesnt attract unnessesary attention (I.E. no red or yellow) No light colors as I dont want to spend that much in paint for that many coats. I'm thinking flat black right now. Opinions?

I feel the same way with the low key. I like the flat black idea, but you and I seem to be the only ppl in the world (that I know of) that actually have considered it! I like the glossy black as well, and prolly will go with that, myself, but first, I have to get my underbody coated and buy some new panels (right front fender, and driver's side door, if anyone has them ).

But yeah, as to your question, I find both options cool, the flat black would look good with louvers on the rear hatch too, IMHO, so long as you are not going to go all out with the weight reduction aspects....

Flat black would be good, but glossy black would be better in my eye. Also, you must take into consideration that if any scratch were to be on the glossy finish, I believe it is much more pronounced than on the flat black. Just some food for thought.

what's wrong with rattlecan?

as long as you prep it right, and take your time, it can actually turn out really well. I painted my '86 S10 with the CHEAPEST spray paint I could find ($1.27 canadian per can of gloss black). It turned out really well actually. I'm in the process of painting my '82 Toyota Hilux with spray paint as well, but this time I'm using decent quality cans of paint.

whole paint job cost me a total of $120, including primer ($3 a can), sand paper, dust masks, earplugs, a $45 angle grinder with sanding attachment, and finish coat

Here's what it looked like before, for those who are curious as to why I spray painted it

I bought the truck for $300 canadian, ran like a top, body needed some serious TLC. Got the body work done, spray painted it, sold it the next month for $1400, more than double what I put into it

Only problem with spray paint is durability... but once it's cured completely, it's pretty durable. I also waxed my truck, and it made it shine like you wouldn't believe.

I know the person that owns it now, and the truck still looks like new

Not trying to convince people whose cars are in decent shape to do this, but if your car looks like **** right now anyways, why not? It'll look a lot better, and will last for a few more years until you can spend the dough on a really nice paint job.

yeah man, you gotta do some mad sanding on that bitch...

wet sand it (get the hose out) with like 1000 grit paper till it's all even, and then spray it again, but hold the can further away

Holy God!! My friend just rattle canned his late 80's S10 like 3 weeks ago. Weird, lol. He did it in the stock color scheme with gloss red and gloss black, but damn it looks good for coming from a can. He just took his time prepping, and then painted and actually put clear coat on top of it. He was in an accident and had all the panels (basically the whole front) that were dented replaced, then sprayed the whole truck. It looks good though. I just sprayed one of my fenders white because it was all dented and **** so I popped the dent out as best as I could (looks damn good actually) and then I just painted it white after some primer to "seal" it where the stock paint had chipped. Doesnt look too bad now actually .

Well, I repainted it. Found out why it was so shitty, that $.94 a can spray paint sucks ***. I painted it with more expensive paint, dark green metallic this time, it looks pretty good, but There are some major suspension problems now as seen in the other thread i made, and i cant get any real good angles for pictures where its at.

Don't go flat black.... it'll look really ghetto.

gloss black is one of the most difficult colors to paint, cuz you see alot of imperfections, choose a stock color so it save you the work of painting the door jams and other small spots.
