what can cause a squeek during hard acceleration?
as the title reads, my car has a high pitch squeek, not a big one, just like a chirp or 2, and its definately not from the tires lol... sounds like metal on metal, but i don't know... it didn't start happening till i got the trailing ignition hooked up... but thats when the performance kicked up a notch or 10... and it doesn't do it all the time, just most of the time when i give it a lot of gas... doesn't sound like a ping either, i'm quite familiar with that sound(unfortunately )
edit: and i just changed the oil for the first time, and went from 10w30 to 20w50... still does it

Mine did a similar thing after being rebuilt. It would make this screeching noise when you hit the throttle. It was worse in higher gears/loads. I knew it wasn't a belt. I got to wondering if maybe one of the front bearings dropped. I took the front cover off to replace, but they all appeared to be fine. I did go ahead and replace anyways. The sound went away. So I don't know what the cause was but it seems like maybe related to those bearings.
If you disconnect the trailing, does the sound go away? Maybe check the end play too to make sure that one of the front bearings didn't slip.

Mine did that when my U-Joints were going out. It eventualy sqeals longer and longer instead of just chirping as you accelerate if you dont replace them, then it will start thumping and clunking, then it will fly off as you drive down the road at 45 MPH and smack the bottom side of the shifter area so hard and so loud the shifter trim ring will fly out the sunroof you had off and your passenger will try and jump out the closed window.

I have a feeling hes talking about the front needle bearings (thrust bearings) that are infamous for getting effed up when you take the main pully off (do they re-use these?), not the rotor bearings that were most likely reused.

Nobody has covered anything simple yet really lol... Could it be in the suspension at all, or perhaps a brake caliper sticking, sometimes these can make squeaking noises.
My exhaust was hitting my watts link and squeaking...
Things to check I guess. Have someone push the car up and down and shake it about and see if u hear anything. Also jack up the rear and check that there is similar friction in both wheels (with handbrake off).
HTH,
Paul.

Good idea, new power would cause the car to "squat" more during acceleration, which could cause things to rub that didnt previously. Also, the brakes are an excellent thing to check. I cant believe I didnt think of that, lol. Too bad you arent really closer, Id just hop in it and go for a ride with you and see if I can figure it out by ear.

i didn't take the front pulley off... needle bearings are still in the same place as the day they were assembled... well i took the front "pulley" off, but only the hub, i didn't take the actual pulley off
and front calipers are brand spankin remanufactured... rear calipers are origional, but i did just change the brake pads all around and had to compress those rear calipers...

Humm yea check the suspension and the rearend also really good idea to look at the mounts on the tranny and the engine the added power band could be making the engine torque a little bit that making the bushings give a bit.
