what to buy? exhaust

So ii finaly got my car running. Smooth. I'm wanting to replace my whole exhaust system besides the headers .... how hard is it to make a custome straight pipe. With a muffler and presilenser? Will it cause ptoblems? Since I'm going. To keep thhe stock. Headers?

This thread interests me. I just removed my factory exhaust from the manifold back because I had to replace my U-joints.
I'm sort of curious what everyone's opinion is on the different exhausts possibilities and if 12a's sound/respond to exhaust modifications the same as 13bs?

I know I had a 13b with true duel exhaust in to two flomasters and it sounded great. I also had one that had a straight pipe and sounded like a s10 from behind. And the tuner pipe that sounds horrible....

It shouldnt be hard to do. I would use 14 gauge minimum to avoid having the exhaust sound tinny and metallic. The racing beat universal presilencer 2.5 and universal muffler would make a nice budget alternative to the power pulse prima flow set up and should yield good power and sound. Magnaflow mufflers have also been used but their success may really be limited to turbo set ups. Good luck.

My future plans are a RB header, probably used, with two Magnaflow mufflers through 2 1/2" pipe to the back. This is on an extremely low budget, but it'll still be around $250 by the time I'm done and I've heard a few of them up close and they sound good - not tingy or metallic.

Why are you going to keep the stock headers? They're very restrictive, replacing them is one of the best performance upgrades you can do.

2.25" pipe is totally fine for a stock 12A, after the manifold/header

Replace the headers. The rest is very simple for any competent muffler shop.

You can find a complete used racing beat system for around $400 on this forum. Racing Beat has a good reputation. They are on the heavy side, but very durable, and will probably outlast your car.

I have headers and a dual exhaust setup to a magnaflow mid muffler which goes into a y-pipe before the diff to a magnaflow muffler. Sounds really nice. The previous owner had it done.

My car came with a 3" straight pipe. It was something thick, but I don't know exactly how thick. I welded a 3' glasspak where the pre-silencer should be. Then I put a flowmaster on the back.

I also welded a motorcycle insertable baffel in the flowmaster. Then packed the crap out of it with chicken wire and fiberglass.

Sounds pretty good. Tuned the edelbrock to match and she sings right along \m/

Hells no!!! and a strait pipe louder than a S.O.B.

Ok... maybe you can get more top end out of a strait pipe, but at what cost?! Your ear drums!!

Also, I'd like to add its not a good kind of loud its annoying and pingy.

As soon as I have the money I'm getting the rest of the RB exhaust for my car.
