What brands to buy ...

Hey guys ! I would just like to have personal oppinions about some stuff.

My 7 needs shocks, springs, and I need to change both tranny and gear oils.

1) Shocks: I'd just like to know what brand and model you guys run on yours that are performance, yet not like 400$ a shock lol. If you've got some cool setups I'd like to hear about it and how they respond to the road. I'm looking for something hard, yet still smooth. Something that gives me good control is a must.
I had KYBs in mind, with their gas-a-just model. If you've got pricelines too that could be cool.

2) Springs: Basicly, I'm looking for something not too expensive either, that would match un nicely with the shocks in #1 :P. I was thinking racing beat on those.

3) Tranny Fluid: I would like to have specific brands, and everything .. I always get screwed up lol. synthetic pros/cons would be cool ( I was of course thinking synthetic :P ) I've got no brands in mind for this though.

4) Gear Oil: Pretty much the same as #3

Guys, I thank you very much for checking this out with me
Eric.

Well 217k My 7 needed new shocks badly I put on a set tokico Hp's (the blue ones) from www.ground-control.com so far I am very happy with them the ride is firm but not harsh in my opinion. Handling is also good (big step-up from blown out stockers) set-up now is slightly loose in combination with the stock springs.

I've not experienced any "upgrade" springs so I don't know what to offer there but RB is about the only thing I've seen short of a full coil over.

As far as fluids go I'd just by the best of whatever your local autoparts store has. Not much sense in being cheap here. If you have a limited slip rear make sure your rear end fluid has an additive for the plates. Also check the magnetic fill plug before you drain the fluid and if it has metal on it, clean this off (if it does), then drive, then repeat a few times before you change the fluid.

As far as other spring / shock combinations do a search cause it has been covered DOZENS of times. And I'm sure a few new ones will get posted here as well.

KYB GR-2s are a pretty good shock if you don't have a lot of money. Springs should be either Eibach Pro, or just get the whole RB suspension kit for the best all around performance gain. Tranny fluid: You have an automatic I guess then... honestly it doesn't matter too much, get some Chevron, its good stuff actually, and grab some Pro-Long to throw in. For the gear oil it again doesn't really matter, all oils have to live up to SAE standards I think Redline makes SAE90 gear oil, it holds together and has some treatment additives.

Tokico Illumnas are not even $400 a shock...

People on here swear by the Tokico blues on a budget though...

I am going to go with everyone else on the redline gear box oil. Tranny fluid threw me off, I thought it kind of odd that someone with an auto was looking for performance oils. Now I know thats not the case.

Nice !! thanks guysthis is starting to help alot. So how much would the tokiko blues run arround .. and are they really worth it ? Like would I get THAT much better handling/road response, etc then with the KYBs ? and for springs: I'd like to get it like an inch down so that I could eventually get bigger rims and make that look nice. tokiko or racing beat or ... I was really thinking racing beat cuz my friend Jon let me try his out and they felt pretty cool ... But I am used to driving mine daily with REALLY screwed up shocks :P lol my car is sorta riding on a big balloon !:P lol

NE ways thatnks, keep the info comming

Hey I'm looking at a red 83 FB RX-7. It runs but it's been sitting for a couple years. My uncle's selling it and he said the last time it ran was about a year ago (should still run hopefully.) It needs cosmetic and engine work. It has a new clutch and brake pads. He'll most likely give it to me for under $500. I'm going to look more into it then I might get it. What do you guy's think?

ST springs are good but dont be pissed when you first put em on because you wont notice a difference for a while but eventually you'll be happy like me. also i have tokico blue struts and am very happy but the ride with the ST springs will definitely change and be a little bumpier, but it's a trade off and your decision!
