That's a good question. The stock head units were Clarion, so perhaps the speakers were as well...

The stereo, EQ, both amps and all speakers are all Clarion. The front 4 inch speakers are the first to go. After 20 years, the rubber suspension around the cone deteriorates to a point where the speaker just can't make decent bass. The rear ones seem to last forever.

if you have to have clarion, these will work for the back.

these will work in the front.

i have replaced all the factory speakers in my car with audiobahn which sounds great. you can also go with bose, polk, or rockford fostgate, all of which are really great speakers. ebay is the best place to buy them.

So if I take out the storage bins behind the seats I will find two amps? Could I put other amps in the same spot? say an aftermarket one of some kind? Maybe I wont go with keeping Clarion in the car, i might go with Rockfor Fosgate. I seen some nice 6.5" at best buy for $99 then the front 4" for $79.

French RX7 is right about the 4" speakers. My front drivers side speaker rattles and vibrates (I think its blown) I think Junia is right as well about all stcok speakers in cars from Japan being Clarion, A friend of mine has a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero and it has a stock Clarion system.

I just installed some rear Kenwood $200/pair retail on sale for $65 at Best Buy.($130 sale price then 1/2 off for buying the front Rockford Fosgates @ $80). Definitely an improve ment over stock. An upgraded amp would help.

Clarion is still alive and well and they still make pretty nice stuff. If you want clarion in Japan they're called addzest or adzest(can't remember), but thats just like everything else with names. Pioneer is known as carrozeria, eclipse is known as fujitsu-ten, pioneer is also known as national and so on.

you will see two amps there. you could put the new amps there if they were small enough or if you put an amp in each bin.
