I'm 99% sure that 85's have the large axles. If you wanted to really be sure you can look at the flange on the rear end, where the driveshaft bolts up. If the holes are threaded you have small axles. If they are not threaded then you have large axles. This is an easy check, in case someone has swapped out the rear end on your car for some reason.

As far as the parts are concerned, go to Autozone and tell them you need a rear wheel seal. Part #710320, should be $6 a piece. If you want to do the bearings too, then you also need to ask for two rear wheel bearings, part #511017, $78 each.

Good luck!

If you have the original rear end you have large axles. I don't know the part numbers for the seals and wheel bearings, but you can get them from VB (Black Dragon) or I expect most part stores.

The wheel bearings have to be pressed on. Any machine shop should be able to do this for you.

Thanks for the info guys. Is there a bearing kit? Or just an inner and outer bearing for each side?

IIRC there is only one bearing on each side. Remember that your working on drum brakes back there if you have an 85 GS. It's not like the front rotors where you have an inner and outer bearing.
