What am I missing?

Greetings All

Sorry if this gets posted twice, I'm new to this group! I thought I posted earlier today.

I'm thinking about jumping back into the RX7 world. I was the original owner of a 1983 GSL and due to several reasons I sold it and moved on to more family friendly cars. However an opportunity has presented itself and I’m looking for advice. A business associate and friend has a 1984 GSL SE that he has offered to sell. The car has 120,000 miles and the body is in good shape. It has been garage and or carport kept. The main problem with the car is it has been sitting for several years, as many as five. He claims, and I have no reason not to believe him, that the car was in good working order when he stopped driving it and has kept it in the hopes of bringing it back to life. In fact I have asked about it over the past few years and he has resisted, but now he has made an offer. What should I expect to find? I know the fuel system will need draining and flushing, and the rubber (tires, hoses and belts) will be suspect. The major concern I have is the engine seals and with that, compression. I have a cousin who is talented with piston engines and offered to have a look with me. He has a compression tester for piston engines. I’ve read that they can be made to work on the rotary. Does anybody have any experience with that? What else an I missing here? Any advice would be appreciated

Mike

In the FAQs at the top of the 1st gen forum is a link for 'Bringing an RX7 back to life', good read. If you plan on doing a compression test befor buying, disable fuel and spark 1st. This can be done by removing the engine fuse under the dash and the rotor in the dizzy.

For the compression test itself, remove or hold the schrader valve open on the tester and watch for 3 even bumps from each rotor. Accelerator pedal must be held to the floor.

Welcome back to the Darkside. In my sig line is a link to the online FSMs. Enjoy.
