What is this?

Can I take this thing off? If I can't take it out, will I be able to change the muffler without affecting that pipe? And do you guys think that a normal exhaust(not a Power Pulse or anything) would be able to fit? I know that rotary engines make a lot of heat and a normal muffler wouldn't be able to last but if it is all in stainless or something?

Thanks a lot guys !

hmmmmmmmmm I don't know I can't jack up the car but I really doubt that it isn't factory equipment... my uncle is the owner before me and I doubt that he installed something that didn't come with the car... anyone else have an opinion???

What are you talking about the exhaust pipe?

You can change mufflers without affecting the over axle pipe, just have to be a good welder

As far as the 'normal exhaust' that is very general. But you can fit 3" pipe through there, I have it, and it works, so I imagine everything else will be ok

It's the muffler bearing. It's there to assist the Jimson's Saddle in keeping the tire lubricator nozzle properly aligned when the blow-off valve in the premuffler hits 25 psi of boost...

That pipe is factory equipment, mine was all crushed up so I just yanked it right off.
I believe its supposed to feed fresh air to the thermal reactor to keep combustion going, though I have no idea why mazda chose to run it all the way back to the muffler

alright I see... so I would be able to change the muffler without affecting that pipe right? cuz a mechanic(which isn't specialized in rx-7's but has a lot of experience) thought I couldn't....

Yup, that pipe has nothing to do with the muffler at all, u can change mufflers

If I were you I would just get rid of the whole thermal reactor system at once and put in RB headers

I had one on my 80 . I have a RB full exhaust and i just unbolted that little pipe and all it does now is blow air where it was bolted near the carb area. You can just unbolt it at the same time you replace your exhaust. Everything will be fine.
