Whaddya Mean Wont Run On Diesel????

So my83 has been sitting for a week after developing a smoking habit.
Come to find out its not her fault. I pushed it on her. She tried to tell me no but I didnt care. Just pumped the 3 gallons of DIESEL into her belly.

It all came to me this morning. As I was driving by the Shell station it hit me like a flashback. I was looking at a Ford Powerstroke filling up thinking... What an idiot. They dont have diesel...........

That brought me to 4 months ago. An Indian man pushed his car into our shop driveway telling us how he just filled up his tank now it wont run. YA... Filled his tank full of diesel from the Shell station 1 min from the shop..

Diesel
Diesel
Diesel

You could actually see the light go on above my head. Couldnt help but to laugh. Got to work and gathered a pan and 14mm wrench. Pulled the tank plug and sure enough. Full of diesel. Cleared out the line into a jug. Pulled the jet plugs on the carb. Filled the tank with 3 gallons of 89. Put everything back togeather and gave it a couple shots of carb cleaner. Fired right up. Still smoked a little and sputtered here and there. But after 10 min of idling, everything was peachy. Drives like a champ and mabey better.

I did go back to the Shell to find out what happened. the pump I used had the octane numbers on the right side of the handles. :handle: 87 :handle: 89 :handle: 93 :handle: Thats it nothing saying it was diesel. No sign no green handle. Just a nozzle. I bitched to the Indians that was running the joint. I had to actually show them the problem. they offered to fix my car, but too late. I got 10 bucks free 93 and im satisfied.
In the end I feel like part of a bone head. But at least I got my project back and I can go with my plans of selling my Eclipse.

Whew

Doesn't sound like your fault.

So where is this place so I don't go there?

Once my wife filled up my 7 on rt 35 and got all kinds of **** in the gas. Ended up pulling tank and rebuilding carb.

Glad to hear you got it.

That's weird because this girl that I know did the same thing. There's a station by my house that has :handle: 87 :handle: diesel :handle: 89 :handle: 91. You'd think that they'd put the diesel not in between the 87 and 89 but that's not the cool way I guess.

Don't you guys have smaller nozzles on the diesel pumps over there? Ours have lock tabs as well. You'd have to be seriously blind to mess it up over here.

Oh well, could have been worse - you could have put petrol in a diesel car

definatly have to be pretty unobservent to screw that up. who remembers the nozzels for leaded pumps? they were uber wide and somewhat short. unleaded are skinny and longer. there is a difference.

I have to admit these fill up stations are getting sneaky. I was driving home from easter sunday with the family and stopped at the station on the turnpike. Now, I had been driving for about 5 hours. Hop out the car swipe the old credit car through the pump reach down and grab the first nossle on the left. It wasnt green and not diesel. but it was 89 octane. They had the pumps in this order 89 87 93. I caught it just before I started pumping. Filling my tank with 87 thinking you dirty cheating bastards.

Luckily I haven't done anything like that yet. The previous owner of my REPU did though. He filled it with 20 gallons of diesel.

A stupid buddy of mine who works at as wecking yard said an FB came in that was running like crap, but still running. Apparently it was full of diesel. I was pretty sure that there was no way in hell that a 7 could get the compression neccesary to burn diesel, but he swore his life on it. idk.

At least you guys get to pump your own gas. Here in Oregon we can't, state law.

Which stinks because my other car has a locking gas door like my RX-7, however, you can't slam it shut after your done pumping. You have to use the key and turn the lock before shutting. The gas station attendents are always damaging the locking mechanism by forcing it shut without the key.

What a steaming pile of political correctness bullshit. Seriously, that's the dumbest thing I've heard all week - and I work at an ISP. Compare this with the UK - you can't get anyone to fill your tank, you have to do it yourself.

Anyways, back on topic - I recall a diesel Toyota Hilux that someone filled with petrol by mistake at the local petrol station. Took off down the road, and after about a mile when all the diesel had worked its way through the fuel system the petrol hit the injectors. I wasn't there at the time, but aparrently it sat on about 8000rpm irrespective of throttle position and hand-grenaded itself after about thirty seconds. Petrol station had to pay for a new engine
