WFT? All the idiot lights on at once?

Ok, well we will chalk last night down to one of the lesser evenings in Rx7 adventures....

When I started my car to drive off after getting a ticket for not having a front plate on my car, all of my dash lights decided that they wanted to put on a little show.

Usually they all light up for about 3 sec when you start the car, then go off. Now they just stay on. I'm not woried that my engine has no oilpressure, coolant, high exhaust temp, and no gas alll at the same time. I'm think more along the lines of some Farking electrical demon that has laid it's curse upon my car..

Any suggestions as to where to start with this?

The Plug on the back of the alternator, or the alternator is not supplying juice. (could be the belt).

Is voltage low?

This has been discussed quite a bit here recently...

It either one of the things Alex said..

My vert did the same thing, every so often, and it was a bad alternator.. when the voltage gets below 11 or 12, the relay that turns those lights on thinks the car isnt running.. When its over 11 volts or so it knows the alternator is charging, and therfore puts the lights out.

Voltage reading is good... If not a little high, usually about 14 volts.

Not sure how much juice the laternator is putting out though, I'll check that.

Voltage is our concern not, amperage...

Check the 2 pin plug on the back of the alt for corrsoion, unplugged etc...

Then check the relay on drivers side fender wall, toeards the firewall. Its silverish/goldish has 2 plugs, one is a 2 pin, and other is a 4 pin.

A little high? Check out what the others said, and if that's not the case, check your battery cables. But most likely (99%) it alternator related

ah.... an observant one...

Take note that was posted at 8:46 am. I think if you look at the ticket, it was written somewhere around 2am, and I was about 30 min from home... So I wasn't all the way awake yet, shoot me

Or maybe I was being Shakespearean, "what fucked thee?"

I actually had a similar problem with my vert. My alternator has 2 pins in the back. One requires voltage to be applied to it for the alternator to work, and the other is for the alternator warning. All my lights were on because the wire had gotten damaged that went to the warning pin. I knew my alternator was ok because, when the car was running it supplied an even 14 volts. I believe that the pin that must have voltage applied to it has to do with the internal regulator, but I'm not sure. It happened a long time ago.

Mine just sat at about 12 volts, and maybe went to around 12.5 when I took it to 6k, I knew the alt was toast.
