Went to the track tonight... So much fun!!
Alright well I've always been more of an autocross guy, but some of us decided about 7 o'clock tonight we should head out to the track froma little fun...
Not a bad turnout..
2 CYM 3rd gens (one being Steve Kan)
one 40k mile 95 3rd gen
a badass MB 3rd gen
a 1991 turbo-II
and me in the GSL-SE
oh... and it just so happened that Ari Yallon and the Rx7.com drag car showed up to do a litel "testing" as well.. By the end of the night it was pretty much just Rx7's at the track.. All the domestic guys ad gone home by then,...
Well out of my 12 runs I did my best time was a 10.23 at 68.14mph. 60 foot time of 2.31 (1/8th mile, sorry)
How does that compare? I've never been to a track to run before so I have no idea what I should have been running... I found my best launchs to be at about 3200rpm with very little clutch slipping.. (mmmm centerforce dual friction is good! And now nice & broken in)
oh, and in case you don't know, the sight of two CYM's running each other is prety damn cool...
Most of what was running out there tonight was domestics and most of my runs were against the 3rd gen guys, so I can't claim many victories... I ran a guy with a 98 240 exhaust and a 70 shot.. I beat hime once and he beat me once...
ok, ran until 3am, went to IHOP and now it's time for bed...

i wish ari would radomly show up at my track to do some testing
thast pretty badass. i would try to get your 60' times down. my best in my gs is a 2.1. i would think a se could do that same or better.

nah, we actually went up to Sanger rather than Kenendale.
I think some friends of mine are heading to Ennis in two weeks and I wanted to get at least a couple test runs with an 1/8th before I go for the full 1/4 mile.
So how are those time and mph.. sound about right for a slightly modded -SE or do I suck?

That's about right for regular street radials as far as 60 ft.s go. Peejay, one of the old regulars, claimed a 2.1 as a good average for him. Your engine has some mid and top-end grunt giving you the low 10 sec times. You should be in the 9s if you had a better tire. Conversely, you could get steeper gears out back and that'll chop the 60 ft.s and ET's also, but you'll be shifting a lot more and watching some gas mileage go bye-bye.
How fast do you want to go? You know the rest.......

Its not like its a "street car" really.... He has gone all out with other things..... like the front suspension, so why not get some gears shoved in that beast?
BTW..... Get some drag radials.... probably good auto-x tire too, never know.....
lol...
better yet... take your auto x tires out to ennis....
I heard of some hooking up good at the track.....
zoom zoom, peace

I was finally goaded into taking the '85 to the dragstrip... Man I forgot how much fun that is!
First trip with Firestone all seasons netted 2.5 60's and 16.8-16.9 timeslips. Walking out of the hole at 3500.
Second trip with my beloved Goodyear Clubs on the back, 20psi, netted 2.3 60's and 16.4-16.5 timeslips. This was launching with a 4500 dump... and I could have been launching it higher if I were able to get a better burnout. 5 feet of tirespin and the car went, no bogging like I had with the white car.
Then the clutch fragged on the way home. Stupid FC clutch... that'll teach me to mix 2nd gen parts on a 1st-gen (I could just imagine the car screaming "Nooo... NOOOO!!!!" when I was bolting it in) Now I have WT's old clutch disc in there, which, um, looks like it's ready to disintegrate. So no more drag racing for a while.
I would advise against autocross tires. They, well, they suck. The sidewalls are just too damn stiff. The Clubs hooked up much, much better than my DOT-R's did, in a straight line. (Cornering was a different story!)
edit: The 1/8th mile numbers from the second trip were all 10.5's at 66ish. Car is essentially stock full options GSL.

That sounds about right. I have a completely stock '85 GSL and pulled slightly slower times. I guess that just goes to show how much difference fuel injection and larger displacement can make.
P.S. 60ft = 2.312
ET = 11.4
MPH = 62.06
These were the best from my 5 trials

My '82 GS went 9.96 at 70mph in the 1/8 with a 2.3 60'
Slightly modded Nikki, GSL rear with a wore out LSD and an RB header...It was only my 2nd time ever drag racing, the car is usually just used for AutoX.

I ran bests in the 2.5 60 fts range and 11.0x's in the 1/8th mile....I could not hook up worth a damn with the Dunlop SP800s....4500 rpm clutch drop spun all the way out and shifted just once...went throught the traps in top of second gear...tires were too tall and killed the gearing multiplication for the engine....
