Went Drag Racing today and came out bummed out

Well i went to drag race today to see what my car is really made of now, and I only got to do a run and a half. First run I missed second gear and didn't start up like i'd like to it was my first time ever drag racing. I cam up with these times:

Reaction --- 1.2988
60 ft -------- 2.4542
330ft ------- 6.9752
1/8 ET ----- 10.6950
1/4 ET ----- 16.4752
1/4 KPH --- 125.30

So that was first run and lots of wheel spin in first and second gear. The second run I think that I blew my clutch ... It wasn't hooking up with the transmission and I smelt like rotten eggs smell. so thats when i knew I had to slow down and stop racing. Well I guess thats what happens when you drag race with a 22 year old clutch. So with all this stuff in account I recon I could be in around the low 14's or so ... plus I had all my bins filled up with my tools my work clothes, the 2 sunroofs, so definetly had too much weight in there too.

Reaction time and 60' need work, but the 1/8th mile time isn't bad. Better than I did with headers and the Mikuni before I built the bp. I know that burnt clutch smell all to well, it's nearly sickening.

my stock fb rane 15.82 with rats nest removed and sliping clutch, but it used to run 16.32 consistant till the tires went baled and the clutch started slipping to much!
but i found that if you dont spin your tires you dont go as fast.
the new rule at the drag stip is you can over spin your tires at the line, that puched me back from a consistent 16.3 to a 16.80ish and not consistent any more so your 16.4 is not all that bad seeing as you have all that extra stuff in her

That's not so bad. My bins were filled up and she wasn't running 100%. With a little carb tuning I should be running around that

Just to say my mods right now:

RB Holley 465 with Manifold
Mazdee's SP Engine
SDJ Headers to with 2.5" piping to single magnaflow muffler
Mallory comp 140 pump (No regulator and no return still so running rich a bit)

As far as traction I've picked up some ASA wheel from a forum member 14x6 and they have some decent raciong rubber on there.

If I run anywhere in the 14.5 i'm happy considering that's what the neon SRT-4 was running down there yesterday and quite a few camaro's. Then there's the bike that were running about 10.5 lol.

I think that i'm going to opt out for the XTD stage 2 clutch, its carbon kevlar and it only cost about 140$ so should be good. if anyone has any experience with that let me know. THanks

I also wasnt very happy running my car at the track, but I do know that I need more tuning. I am currently running in the 13.8 AFR area and havent put my 2nd gen ignition in yet. I spun off the line and my best was 15.887 @ 86.55.

My first run I broke my muffler lol. It came disconnected and I had to take it off so it wouldnt fall off. My second run I didnt have it in gear for some reason so I didnt have a very good reaction time lol. Also had some issues with heat shields from the muffler mishap form the first run and it was rubbing against the inner tire sidewall. Hopefully after more fine tuning and ignition upgrades I will be able to break the 90 MPH mark.

reaction time doesn't mean jack to your et's. get that 60ft down and you will see 15's but i'm sorry to say... i don't see you getting in the 14's with this setup. do you have an open diff?

haha^ nice avatar..dude i think that anyone is going to be upset with there times the first time they run..i know im not expecting much from her when i take it..its good to go in confident..but sometimes that turns into cockyness..lol..i dont know..
anyway good luck with that run and also practice makes perfect so its alot of seat time too..
same with drifting, seat time all the way....

You're the worst driver ever that's your problem. You should be running at least 2.0 60 ft's. If I drove your car I'd make it run a 15.5-7@80mph. Your mph at 77 showes that the engine might not be that strong. Just getting your launch down will get you in the mid 15's. Also if you don't have one get a lsd, that'll help. If it's a 12a with that set up if it's a strong engine you should be able to run maybe a 14.7-9. Even if you were a horrible driver running a 16 your mph should be higher. You should do a compression test, because I'm betting you've got 90-100 on each rotor. With a 13b I ran a 14.6@92mph with a exhaust and weber on a engine with a blown coolant seal.

^^ lol ... I didn't say I was a good driver ... i know that my driving was like ****, i wasn't bummed out about that ... i was just bummed out about the fact that I chewed my clutch up, nothing to do with my time. It was the first time ever I've dragged raced and as i've admited before i've fucked up. I just order the XTD clutch from ebay so I'll hit it up again as soon as I get that installed.

Forgot to mention that I do have an LSD.

Just a regular 12a with street ported housings, its a pretty big street port, bigger than RB's (which from reading around have learnt is actually pretty small) Dave over there has been doing rotary since the first rx-3's came out, he's pretty knowledgeable about his stuff, takes alot of pride doing his work.

At least you were in gear at the light!! I was in neutral for about 3 secs while this 140sx started to pull away.. I ran a 10.3 that run, and using the calculator a 10.3 is just about a 16.000 1/4

Does anyone know how much of a time differance an LSD makes? Like .5 or better??

LSD makes a huge difference in launching. It should be easily good for a half second to a second

It always amazes me how slow our 7's are. My bone stocker will only run 16.99 pushing on it pretty hard. Seems like mid 14's are about all you can get with basic bolt ons and street ports. Even the BP cars are pretty slow for how much time and money are in them.

I put together a pretty basic sbc 350 with some ported heads and a big cam and my nova goes 11.8x's @ 117 mph.

Sure! Yum. I like cookies, especially those Halloween Oreos. They just taste better with the orange middle!

Time to hook up the bottle, let's see if she has 10's in her. Maybe I'll eat your turbo car while I'm munching.
