Weird idle problem

I have a strange idle problem. For some reason it will idle about 500 rpm high when the engine is warm. If it is cold, it will idle about where it should. I can't seem to find any vac leaks, and I can't tune it down with adjustments on the carb. Any ideas?

Also, it is ok to remove the hot start assist right? I hate that it revs to 4k when I start the car when it is warm.

I say adjust the air mixture screw. Just give it a couple of turns to tune it down and it should idle right

Did that, it stalls out before it will sit at a stable idle. It feals like a vac leak, but only when hot?

Could be. I'm honestly not too sure. Seems like a vacuum leak but why it would only happen when it's hot I don't know

find if it is a vacuum leak

spray some carberator cleaner on the vacuum lines while its running.

it it revs up a little then you have a vacuum leak.

but other then that.

you should set idle to 800-1000 my own opinion

I have an 85 GSL-SE and have the same problem. I have tried tinkering with all the adjustments but haven't been able to find out how to get the idle right. I even tried to adjust the throttle cable. So, I don't think it has to do with carb or FI.

I keep srewing with mu idle on my GSL-SE because it always idled so friggin' low. After all this screwing around i found that my idle was a consistent 1000 rpms with the lights off. When i flip the lights on it drops to about 300 rpms.

My presumption is that my twenty year old alternator isinsufficient in providing enough electrical power to keep everything going strong.

So my next upgrade after redoing my coolant system is to install a 3rd Gen. alternator.

Yeah, but mine does it with the lights on or off. Plus I just put in a new alternator for an FC. I don't think that that has anything to do with it. Must be something else.

It starts very well. I have tried to tune this out on both the idle adjusment and the mixture screw. I think I am going to have to rebuild the carb or something. (it probably needs it anyway)
