Weber sidedraft Guys, what kind of setup do you have for a throttle return spring?

Hey guys,
I am just curious as to what you guys do for a throttle return spring? On my car, the one end of the shaft with the butterfly's has this custom crappy metal with holes in it, and it looks like it has been made to fit on the shaft by smoothing out the two edges. This doesn't really work good, it binds with all sorts of stuff and im unable to hook the other end of the spring up to anything that provides enough tension (I have tried other springs without good luck either)

There must be a different way these carbs come from the factory. Lesson learned, I don't think I would ever buy a carb used again, it has just turned into a big hassle trying to get the thing to be like new. Pictures would be greatily appreciated. For the record im talking about a Weber 45, but a weber 48 should have a similar setup.

Thanks!

I should mention that this crappy last owner customed throttle return bracket is located on the alternator side of the carb (when its sitting on the engine.) This is part of the reason for the binding, the spring likes to hit the alternator, and it doesn't seem very good snaking a spring across the top of the motor to the lifting bracket on the motor. It works for a temp. thing, but I would like something that I know is going to be more reliable then that.

I was looking at pictures of some others setups, and it looks like some of you guys are using different throttle cable brackets first of all. I believe the one that I am using right now is either from the nikki carb or from some other carb that the previous owner threw on. I also noticed that the throttle return spring was located on the firewall side of the carb. This is a interesting idea, but there is no way that I can hook the return spring up to the current throttle cable linkage... Looks like im in search of the proper linkages...

Hmmmm actually I just realized that I am going to have to round up a throttle cable linkage like the one you showed in your picture...

well so far what I have done is I got a L shaped braket it drilled one of the holes bigger. Then I put the bracket underneath the furtest over upper/lower intake mani bolt. So the bracket is in the perfect position as far as I am concerned. I just wish I had the same throttle linkage that you have Hyper4mance2k.

Only problem is with the way I have it right now, the spring I used binded on the linkage. So what I need is a spring that has the one end bent so that it will not bind... The spring I had I tried to bend, ended up breaking it. I searched around town at the hardware stores for another one without any luck.... Damn, what to do now...

I went to my local Shucks/Checker/Kargen and they carry these "Help" products real crap but they're only ment to be used in a jam. But NEway, they have a 5 pack of return springs for like $3 and I used one of those. They easily bend and work great. I had one last for about 20k and then it melted on me one day LOL! seriously... It was on one of those 98* days this year. I built the throttle linkage out of simple L brace from Homo Depot. I just cut it with a hak saw and drilled it and bolted it together. Put a little JB weld on it for reassurance that it wouldn't move. It took me about 1 hour, so if I can do it anyone can!

Ok, sounds similar to what I am doing right now... I just need to locate a spring in town now, Home depot, totem, Rona, and Canadian tire don't have what I want... There also isn't a shucks/checker/ or kargen around here that I know about. The search begins I guess!

I also have a Weber sidedraft setup. I wish I had pictures for mine - my car is in storage at the moment. You might be able to see it at http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/rgrunenw/my_photos

Essentially, I have a fabbed bracket that serves as the anchor point for one end of the return springs. This bracket is attached to the runners of the intake in sort of a ghetto method (hose clamps) but it provides the correct angle from which to anchor the return spring. The other end of the return spring attaches to the lever the throttle cable is connected to.

Yes, the picture of yours is basically what I am doing, except I have a L bracket coming off one of the upper intake bolts. The biggest problem is that you guys have a different linkage then mine (refer to my picture of my carb/intake) Maybe I should just order a linkage like yours?
