Weber IDA CARB HELP "VIDEO inside" kinda fun to watch

This is a repost of a thread that Im not getting much action on. I made a little movie of it.

movie link

16.4 mb file sit back and relax

click on it and save to your computer.. Sorry its a Quicktime product..

There is no muffler on the car so the video is quite loud!!! just a warning

OK I have a Weber 48 IDA following specs

Venturies 37 mm
Main Jet 180
Air Jet 160
needle seet 3.5 glass ball
Float turbo prepped filled with foam and sealed
0 bypass plug
Fuel pressure is at 4 on my summit (god only knows how accurate) guage

Enigne porting is stock

Heres what is happening. She idles good, runs up through the rpms great no problem. but when you stop to coast say 3000 rpm she buck and grumbles doesnt matter what rpm you stop and coast at, she complains.

I reset the float level to the stock settings per the haynes manual, but I think the float is heavier now with the foam, so the fuel level in the carb maybe too high. Could this be the problem? Does anyone have a reference point on were the fuel level should be in the carb itself?

I have the same sort of problem with my 12a Bridgeport.

Idles fine, but when it revs to about 3krpm the motor shakes like buggery and it goes all crap.... the rest of the rev range is fine. When driving it cant hold a steady cruise between 3 and 4k rpm.. just jumps and bunnyhops and burps and farts etc, it all started when i change the needle and seat. I believe its to do with the float level because i had a play and reduced the kickback slightly by playing witht he level. I had the problem where the level was too low, i starved fuel at WOT, too high.. it bucks and runs like ****... still cant find the happy medium

Fuel pressure doesnt help in anyway either.

Anyone got any suggestions???

Maybe ill just take it to a carby tuner

I called jay cee ent. the place where I got my needle and seat. I believe its a float adjustment problem too. I asked him if the float should be adjusted to the specs in the haynes manual. He told me its going to be trial and error. there needles are a touch longer than stock ones. If the carb is flooding, which i believe mine is to adjust the float .001 till it stops. When its correctly set I should be able to push on the float through the little hole between the jets and get fuel to surge into the barrels with a little touch. Sounds like its going to be a long weekend .001 inch at a time.

I was also thinking about doing this for more fuel bowl capacity its supposed to be a 20.8% increase

You can find more info on that here vw trends

I'm almost sure the problem is caused by running too rich while crusing. When I had 180 jets in mine, it would cruise great, but would detonate under 10psi. Now I'm using a 235 jet and it runs great under boost, no detonation up to 17psi, but sputters and bucks when crusing at 60+mph, under that it cruises great.
