Ways to bleed cooling system
I put in a new thermostat in my 83 GS (no mods) yesterday. Found lots of good troubleshooting info on here regarding my temperature being higher in city traffic than when on the highway at higher speed. Replaced radiator cap too. I got ahead of myself and apparently left some air in the system because a few blocks down the road the temp went up to 5/8 then 3/4 before I could kill it and coast into the driveway....
I just got done bleeding again by watching for bubbles in the rad. If I didn't get all the air pockets that way, what other (maybe quicker) way is there to bleed?
Just don't want to be staring at the car all day if there's a quicker way to do this.

When I do a system flush, I usually idle the engine to operating temp with the radiator cap off... Then I rev it a little. All bubbles usually collect at the top of the radiator and escape out the cap.
Occasionally, the bubbles will collect in the area near the level sensor (Little electrical device near the center of the top cap of the radiator. It removes as well.
Then for the next week, I carry coolant with me and check the level before starting the car, after it's cooled down.

Yep. Did those (except squeezing the hoses). I always like to do things right the second time around...runs in the family.
Looks like the thermostat fixed the problem. Never got over 1/2 on the temp gauge at any point in my 160 mile daily drive to South Hell. Guess its a good thing the speedo stopped working......
