water temp question

Hello all

have fitted a water temp gauge.

If i use the temp sender that came with the gauge and connect it to the turbo water line (s5 motor) - at the point just behind thermostat housing, I get a reading of 60 degree C (140 degree F)

however, if i connect to the std temp sender just near the oil pressure sender 'mushroom' I get a reading of 80 degree C (176 degree F)

1) can anyone suggest a reason for these differing readings ? (is it a case of the thermostat housing is where cooler water is coming from the radiator into the engine and at the oil pressure area thats where the water is at its hottest because it has just come thru the engine cooling passages ?)

2) are these readings within spec ?

3) which sender position should I use ?

thanks guys

Well, you just answered 2 of you 3 questions. #1 and #2 are correct.
You need to use the sender unit that is in the block.
See, that was easy.lol
