Water jacket problem?
Hi,
I was wondering what we can check to see if we have a damaged water jacket/oring on a bridgeported series 2 (gen 1) 12A RX7?
I know it is similar to a head gasket so should I check for carbon monoxide in the coolant?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

look for either white smoke out the tail pipe. or also look for small bubbles in the radiator. just take off the cap and see if there are small bubbles rising. You can also checks to see if it leaking coolent to the outside. but the other 2 things i suggested will tell you if it is leaking on the inside seal.

Thanks for the reply. My Dad said there was no some at all, he didn't see any bubbles in the radiator. What he found was the presence of about a dessert spoon, maybe less, of water in #1, but none in #2 when he took the plugs out.
He will try again later tonight and see if there is any more water.

A very bad sign of a inner coolant seal failure which grows ever so slowly is when your overflow resevior is overflowing with coolant and the engine is overheating even though your thermostat is not bad. Each time you let it sit, it drinks more coolant out of the radiator and one day all hell breaks loose and coolant spits out of the overflow resivior because of combustion pressure pressurizing the system because of the leak.. When this happens, your screwed, and if you let is sit for a couple days, coolant will seep into the engine and cause rust and be locked up if you try starting it a few days later. Fix: overhaul, consider replacing warped or damaged housings as nessessary
