Unhappy Water flooding near passenger footrest

Hey ya'll see if someone can help me with this one.
I got some awesome seats from one of our local brothers here. As I removed the rails with the seat on the passenger side, I just so happened to lift the carpet and lo and behold there was at least an inch of water drenched with the insulation under the carpet!!!
Has anyone had this problem before? Where could this water possibly be coming from?
I appreciate all the feedback.
Cheers
Luca

hole in the firewall or floorboards?

Was it clear water? Or leaking coolant from the interior heater core?

is it water or coolant? could be a leaky heater core... also your a/c drain is in the passenger side too, it might be clogged causing the condensation to drain into the passanger compartment..

thanks Guys, it was clear water. How would I know if it's the heater core?
My a/c has been shut down for years but how would I know if it's that draining as well?

In the floorboard there are circular, black, plastic plugs that plug these 1.5-2" round holes in the car. Chack and see if those are all in there, for some reason one of mine was missing and it allowed puddles and so forth to splash up into the car.

yeah I found one under the seat that wasn't attached but loose, making some water leak behind the passenger seat as well. But the one underneath the passenger footing was still there. I think it might be coming from the front of the car somewhere.

Check the roof drains for the sunroof and the gaskets for the door and window, also door alignment.

if your going to check the door alignment then you might as well just look at the weatherstipping on the door, its it all tore up or cracked and brittle?

The driver's door has cracks, but the passenger door is in good shape. I am going to my car right now and pouring water out of a bucket on the windhield to see if there are any leaks.

remember the foot area of the floor is lower than the part under the seats - so if you had a leak under the seat as you described, the water getting in would pool where you discovered it.

edit: I see you're in Ontario. Pull the passenger's seat and flip up the entire passenger side carpet to check for rust holes. You guys use more salt on your roads than Newfies use on fish!

The windshield drains in the same place as the cowl opening, so you can pour the water directly on the windshield wiper mechanism and get the same result, it's just easier. Then you feel around the very top of the carpet (in front of where your feet would be if you sat down). If that part of the carpet gets wet then you know that's there is a hole in the firewall.

I dont think its been mentioned, but In my old rust bucket right behind both of the front wheels there was a very small area (what I believe to be a seam) that had rusted right out, allowing water to pool just as you described... in the rain my carpet would get soaked right down. I think that the previous owner had just left the plugs out in mine so the water would drain....I took a bit of fibreglass and patched up the rusted seam, dried the floor up good and put the plugs back in... no problems since..

Unless you take the floor panel out to get into where the ECU is you wont notice this hole from the inside, so if you think this could be the cause just turn your wheel all the way outwards and check the rear of the wheel well. Should be prety obvious if thats where the water is coming in...
Only thing that makes me think its not water from the road is that you say its clear...but its worth a look!

I used to get water on the floorboard too.
By being super observent when going through the carwash,I was able to track down two minor leaks which could have let a lot of water in over one full wet season.

One was the door,a simple matter of bending the window frame inwards.
The other was a loose rear hatch striker. The aluminum "RX7" pad was bottoming out its bolts before the rubber compressed against the glass.....also an easy fix.

I followed the carpet to where the tip of the passenger toes go(where the firewall is)and I felt the insulation as wet as a sponge. So out came the blower motor with housing. I noticed rust around the edge of the blower motor vent that access the air. I am trying to remove the unit to the left of the blower motor housing, I believe it is the heater or something. It's really hard to take out. Does anyone know where I can find descriptions of how to remove that unit? I need get acces to the firewall as once I find any hole I can get it welded shut.
Cheers,
Luca

Oh man I had to go through this once. If you haven't already taking out the glove box helps so much. Other than that, you better be a contortionist to get to all those bolts and weird fittings back there.

well, it seems that where the blower motor attaches to the body of the car, the vent that draws air and blows air out of, there was a seem that had started to rust and let water in...
I should have known as the blower motor was rusted inside as the water was dripping into as well.
Guys thanks for all your pointers! And yes you really have to contort yourself to get at the evaporator box too!
