Waste money or not to wast money????

I bought a RX-7 with two engines. one running in the car and one that was running when it was in a car. both engines are a little over 100K. Im looking for opinions on this. I want to street port the one that is out of the car. It will be the first time for me to SP an engine. But I really dont want to spend the 490.00 for a rebuild kit. I mean its my first time and if it dont work out I just wasted the $$'s. So here is the plan. Break the engine down, port it, put it back together with all the old parts. If something is seriously messed up replace it. If everything goes good. take the other engine spend the $$$'s.
I have already have the porting templates. Just have been waiting for the 490.00 to appear in the bank acount. like next tax time.

ps. Will have to buy a gasket set right?

Thanks
Sean

my advise, for what it's worth....

Yes, you absolutely need the gasket set as a minimum. Pull the engine apart and mic everything out really well. Only relace the parts that are out of spec and if you can swing it, replace all the seal springs. I'm sure you'll get plenty of other opinions too. Good luck!
