I don't know where the concept of blaming the rebuilder came from. Certainly I'm frustrated at spending almost $3,000 for two engines and having nothing to show for it, but my intent here was to simply communicate the facts - let the buyer beware - and give some real life examples to what is and what is not covered by their 2-year warranty. I wish I had seen a similar posting before buying my first one. I found it really interesting in doing the research, after the fact, that Atkins did repair failed engines for some of the customers but warned they wouldn't do it again for them. Had they done that for me, I'd be happy. I'm currently running fine on a $350 engine I found from a fellow on the internet who said it has 10,000 mile after a rebuild.

I have an adkins rebuilt in mine. its streetported and pulls strong as hell I have had no problems. Had more problems with my fuel system then with the engine. The weber id giving me all kinds of problems. And the bad thing is that the town I am in has nobody that knows anything about webers on rotaries. I hate this place.

I purchased a rebuilt streetport from them and have about 3500 miles on the engine. I couldn't be happier. The car is quicker than **** and I am having no problems. As long as you keep regular maintence and treat the car like your baby you shouldnt have any problems. All in all I am very satisfied with Atkins. They got a new engine out to me in about a week.

For you Seattle guys, try Jerry's Little Cars in Kent. Not a big name but an IMSA racer and knows these machines well. He is reliable, trustworthy and I give him 100 percent of my business. I don't need attitude or a sales pitch when I hit a shop. I get neither from Jerry. If you like the big names, go with these other guys. I wouldn't walk in the door of one shop on the Eastside due to their ongoing attitude. I would encourage anyone with a bad experience to do what I do: cut your losses and move to another shop! It hurts to get burned, but I really have to ask how these motors were driven. Too many posts I see of guys trying to find how far you can rev an engine. Well, it will go really high and when you find out how high, its too late!

Caveat Scriptus: I've not actually bought an engine from Kathy, but I'm dealing on one now and I'm finding that her communication and service, at least, seem standard to above par...

just my 2 cents (1.3 cents US)

I like what Rob at Pineapple told me when buying my last n/a engine from him. "Just keep it under 9k, and it'll be ok." So far the motor has about 10k miles on it, about 50ish dyno runs (Banging off rev-limiter), and 75ish 1/4 mile runs. I drive the car about 18 miles a day (short commute) with about 3-4 blasts up to 8,500 in 2nd-3rd gear. So i guess you could say i drive the car fairly hard. The car does'nt smoke one bit, hot or cold. Keep in mind i have no cats too Uses about 1 quart of oil, by the time its time to change it. It makes almost exactly the hp that the he claimed it would make. (200 flywheel or around 170rhwp). Although secertly i think i'm subconiously (I can't spell) trying to blow it up...so i can justify more port to my wife!! I need something with a small lope to it. Overall i could'nt be happier with this engine or Rob. CJ

I do like Rob's customer service so far. He's answered many many questions of mine and he is 100% professional. He's just real late getting me my new motor. Some things are out of his control, others aren't. It's not supposed to take 3 months.

Rob is honestly swamped right now. The poor guy is working 7 days a week, and atleast 12hrs a day. Rob make take awhile sometimes, but the quality and what you get for his prices is unmatchable. CJ

Thanks CJ, that's exactly why I went with Pineapple in the first place. I learned more in a 20 minute phone conversation with him than everything I read and heard at the track all year!!!!!!!!!

Atkins Rotary

I would have no qualms about buying any rotary engine from Atkins. They know rotarys. They sell them to put in planes, boats, and cars. David and Kathy are nice and try to work with you. I have gotten some parts from them, new and used, and they were reasonably priced. Any new or rebuild engine has to be installed and broke in right.
