Wanted Holley Carb Help

Ok, have a holley question on a rx7 I just got.
The car has a 600 or 650 holley carb and well when you hit wide open throttle it falls on it face! Once you milk it a little she pulls hard and all the way to 8k.

Motor is streetported, fuel pump upgraded, and fuel pressure is around 6psi.
Also it idles at 2000-2500

Want to try to get this to run good where I can daily drive it.

Really would want to swap it out for a Webber 45DOCE or Dell48 but
dont have one right now.
Honestly know nothing about holley carbs so it will be learning something new for me.

well you need to find out if it is a 600 or 650. did you try adjusting the idle screw by the linkage? is it a vaccum secondary or mechanical?

The model number is on the front of the air horn. You can find all the info about it on Holley's website. http://www.holley.com/

post some pics of the left and right side of the carb...

Also on the float bowls the one facing the driver side there shold be a part number...that part number relates to what size the carb is...once you find that just call jegs and they will tell you what size the carb is...But don't ask them how to tune it...

Post the pics and let us know what you find out...

It is most likely the accelerator pump discharge nozzle. It is too big if it works best when you push the accelerator slowly. try going down 3 sizes.

I put a holley on my RX-7 once. Exact same problem as you described. I fooled around with it but never got it to go right. It was not originally setup for a rotary. I fooled around with jets, pump cams, and such. I was glad to put the twin Webers on.

I had an RX-4 once with a professionally builty holley. Guy in B'ham, AL set it up. It ran beautifully - even when cold. I know he machined off the choke air horn and did a bunch of other stuff to it. Ron down in Florida has that car now.

yeah, honestly i'd stick with the Weber dual trumpet carburetors, and you can find'em pretty easily, and they're made for smaller displacement motors, like VW and what not. i just ordered: http://www.tweakit.net/shop/product_...roducts_id=104, and: http://racingbeat.com/FRmazda1.htm,
