im going to have to disagree, i've had all 3 generation seats in my 84 and i really like the 3rd gen seats they imho have great side supports and since they are smaller in width it makes for a great spot to hold drinks in the left rear corner behind the seat i will say it's not a easy install but still great feeling seats imho
At the very least I need to pull them out and redo the installation, but I've never seen any photos of the job done right, and I'm back to that whole "needing a welder" scenario as well. I think they could be very comfortable seats if installed straight, and if I can get them lower than they are now.
Oh, and you are spot on with that cup holder comment. Very functional space you get there..

I have recaro speed seats, these used to be in a porsche, they are rewrapped in leather and have suede inserts. The bottom bolster is also adjustable forwards providing more leg support. Probally more than most would like to spend, but I am very happy with them!
The drivers seat was really easy to mount, I used a piece of 1/4 inch plate 2" wide and adjusted for the difference in the rail to seat mounting points. Passenger side is alot harder and I still have not figured out how i'm going to do it. The stock FB passenger seats have the rail mounting point on an angle, so you have to figure something else out. (any ideas from others who have done this before?)
