Kinda funny how you wanna remove that antenna, as that's what I replaced my original, broken, motorized antenna with. sounds good, what you plan to do, but I'll tell you that I had to remove the right tail light to get my old motor out of the car and install the new antenna. Prolly not the type of responce you're looking for, but I figured, why not, eh?

A cap would work, if its a permanaent thing you could fill the hole and make it flush for that streamlined look. I'm thinking about doing that. My pos radio shack antenna gets gross reception and I'm not into radio that much anyway.

you don't really wanna leave a hole there, unless you want water collecting inside your car

I'd just put a piece of fiberglass over it from the inside (wait until it starts to cure a bit, so it's stickier), then do a little body filler and sanding, then touch up the paint, and buff it out with rubbing compound. (My car, and my abilities with body work)

welding a hole the size of a quarter shut is hardly worth the effort. Fiberglassing would take less than the length of time it'll take someone to cut a piece of metal out in a circle, weld it in, and grind it down. And if it's originality you're worried about, this is hardly worth the effort to make it look factory from inside the rear wheel well area... you can't even see it from inside anyways.

Weld a quarter to it.

(Or...in my case, just cover the hole with a massive wing.)

Yea basically. Even with no interior you wouldn't see it. Plus if you ever wanna put the antenna back in, the fiberglass/bondo job is much easier to remove than a weld.

Hehe...Loosen the bolts, unplug the wires, take it out .

Actually, I do find it odd that you want to take yours out, and Im going to Radio Shack tomorrow to buy one. its gotta be better than the broken POS with no mast that I have in there now . Besides, for $20, I cant expect that much .

I'd rather have one of those bent-looking rubber ones that comes straight off the roof of the car, right at the back, behind where the sunroof is... I think it'd look much better there...

Does Radio Shack sell a signal amplifier for car antennas?

Like passats and jettas? I think an antenna off one of those would be sweet. Anyone done that? I'd really like to, but something about drilling a hole in my roof has me a little unsettled.

I really like the "rubber" stock antenna... unfortunately when I took the tarp off yesterday.. it kinda... snapped in half!

Anyone have an extra laying around I could get for a few bucks and shipping? I hate the way it looks just sorta broken off near the bottom :S Message me

Jon

my car has a little nozzle up there for the rear window washer... i guess if you had one of them you could extend the hole a bit...

I just installed one of those black rubber antennas that I bought on ebay. It works real well and was easy to install. Actually it doesn't look to bad and I was suprised that work so well and the best part was it was only $20.00. I believe it's called an Europian Antenna.
